Hey music lovers! Here’s my latest video, an album review for Turisas’ most recent album, Turisas2013. This album didn’t really strike me as very good, but after a second chance I absolutely love this album! Give it a chance and take a listen to my review.
If you’re doubting my last post, just listen to this. Turisas is too good. Both live and on record.
This is how I feel whenever I listen to folk metal. I assume it’s how you feel too.
So Paganfest was fantastic.
I was right in the first row so that meant mega amounts of interaction with the bands. Jonne pointed and winked at me a couple of times, as did Mathias. And Olli was… Olli.
Mathias made an amazing joke involving poutine. If he ever decides to quit music, he definitely has a career in comedy.
Also, I’m kind of sad I knew very little about Winterhymn because their cover of the Skyrim theme/the Dragonborn Comes was kind of great (and may or may not have made me want to play Skyrim)
All in all, it was a fantastic evening. The bands were all so great and at some point before Korpiklaani came on there was a little folk dancing session in the audience (because why not)
I gotta agree with you, I was very happy with how excellent Winterhymn was. I didn’t know a ton about Chthonic and Varg beforehand but I figured they’d be great, but being honest Winterhymn surprised me. The whole evening was amazing!
Finding New Music
This past week, I had the pleasure to attend the first show of the Paganfest USA tour that’s currently crossing the country. While I mainly went to see Turisas and Korpiklaani, bands that I already really enjoy, the band I was most surprised by was Chthonic. A heavy metal band from Taiwan, not only are they incredibly talented musicians, they also are incredibly interesting on a personal level. I’ve been listening to them almost non stop and I’m excited to discover more of their music. Varg, an excellent group from Germany is also a band I’d love to hear more from. Going to shows is probably my favorite way to discover new music.
