Sylvester Stallone not in Rambo: First Blood

Sylvester Stallone will not be a part of developing Fox series Rambo: New Blood.

In an initial release, the network claimed that Stallone would be an executive producer on the show and that he might reprise his role from the 1982 series. Now, EW can confirm that Stallone will not be involved.

“Contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone has opted not to participate in the planned Rambo television series in any way at all,” a rep told Deadline. “I wish the others well with the project,” added Stallone.

The actor’s absence from the project could spell out its premature end — the series was picked up by Fox under the expectation that Stallone would be involved. It was planned that First Blood would focus on the relationship between Stallone’s iconic character of John Rambo and his son; however, with Stallone’s absence in mind, it remains unclear whether the show will move forward. If it does, a retooling of the premise might be necessary.

Interestingly, Stallone has recently received critical acclaim for reprising another one of his famous roles: Rocky Balboa in Creed. Apparently, Stallone is fine with revisiting the past, but only for the right projects.
