EW's editorial guidelines Published on October 13, 2023 01:04PM EDT It's Michelle, b----: Michelle Williams has been tapped to narrate Britney Spears' upcoming memoir. Following her turn in Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans, the Academy Award-nominated star will narrate the audio version of Spears' The Woman in Me, set to hit bookshelves on Oct. 24, EW can confirm. While the pop star will record the audiobook's introduction, Williams will lend her voice to the rest of the memoir. "This book has been a labor of love and all the emotions that come with it," Spears said in a statement to PEOPLE. "Reliving everything has been exciting, heart-wrenching, and emotional, to say the least. For those reasons, I will only be reading a small part of my audiobook. I am so grateful to the amazing Michelle Williams for reading the rest of it." Williams offered a brief statement of her own: "I stand with Britney." Michelle Williams; Britney Spears. Kevin Mazur/Getty Images; Isaac Brekken/Getty Images Described as a "brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope," the tell-all promises "remarkable candor and humor" from the pop icon and the illumination of "the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last." It takes its name from Spears' 2001 coming-of-age ballad "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman," which features the lyrics, "I'm not a girl don't tell me what to believe (not yet a woman) / I'm just tryin' to find the woman in me." The memoir comes nearly two years after a judge terminated Spears' conservatorship following a 13-year arrangement that saw her estranged father, Jamie Spears, overseeing her person and estate. Prior to the legal victory in November 2021, bolstered largely by the #FreeBritney movement, the pop star publicly addressed the conservatorship for the first time since its conception, testifying in court that June ("I just want my life back," she said) and accusing her father of conservatorship abuse. To coincide with the memoir's release, Spears' 2002 cult classic road trip film Crossroads will return to theaters for a two-night event on Oct. 23 and 25. In her first feature role, Spears portrays Lucy, a high school graduate who embarks on a cross-country trip from Georgia to California with pals Kit (Zoë Saldana), Mimi (Taryn Manning), and love interest Ben (Anson Mount). The film from director Tamra Davis and screenwriter Shonda Rhimes features a performance of "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman." Spears' memoir is available for pre-order now.
