Liam Gallagher gripes about select Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees: 'It's like putting me in the rap hall of fame'

"I’ve done more for rock n' roll than half of them clowns."

Liam Gallagher is once again griping about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — this time about the class of nominees.

The singer-songwriter, who is nominated this year alongside his former Oasis bandmates, complained about the inclusion of artists who have not recorded rock songs at this year's ceremony in conversation with The Sunday Times (via PEOPLE) over the weekend.

"As much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say, do me a favor and f--- off,” Gallagher said. "It’s like putting me in the rap hall of fame, and I don’t want to be part of anything that mentally disturbed. Besides, I’ve done more for rock n' roll than half of them clowns on that board, so it’s all a load of bollocks."

Alongside Carey and Oasis, the nominees this year are Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne, Sade, and A Tribe Called Quest.

“This remarkable list of nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates,” foundation chairman John Sykes said in a statement. “Continuing in the true spirit of rock & roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”

Gallagher railed against the institution after nominees were announced earlier this month, writing on social media that he would not attend the ceremony if Oasis were inducted. Though his brother Noel might show up, Gallagher said he, on the other hand, would be "washing my hair and having a pedicure and a manicure.”

It's pretty common for non-rock artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Last year's inductees, for example, spanned Missy Elliott, Dolly Parton, George Michael, Sheryl Crow, and Willie Nelson. Other notable non-rock genre inductees of ceremonies past include Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., and Carly Simon.

The 2024 inductees will be announced in late April, with a ceremony to take place in Cleveland sometime in the fall. The ceremony will stream live on Disney+ and on Hulu the next day. As for Gallagher, he'll be shampooing and tending to his cuticles.
