Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay says he's not Capitol riot Viking: 'I wasn't with all those freaks'

Jamiroquai's lead singer Jay Kay has addressed comparisons to a man shown storming the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday dressed as a Viking.

The "Virtual Insanity" singer, who is known for wearing extravagant headgear, released a video statement on Twitter after his name began trending in response to comparisons made between him and Jake Angeli, a Donald Trump supporter known as the QAnon Shaman, as identified by CNN and multiple other outlets.

"Good morning, world," Kay says cheerfully in his video post. "Now some of you may be thinking you saw me in Washington, [D.C.] last night but I'm afraid I wasn't with those freaks."

Although he separated himself from the far-right extremist, the British musician did give a nod to Angeli's fuzzy hat on his video post by writing "loving the headgear, but not sure that's my crowd."

Angeli is one of a throng of MAGA supporters who violently infiltrated the Capitol building as legislators were inside taking part in an electoral count to affirm Joe Biden's defeat of Trump in the 2020 election. Through repeated calls for mass protests due to unproven voting schemes, Trump either directly or indirectly encouraged the acts of domestic terrorism on Wednesday. The sitting president has since been banned on Facebook and Instagram indefinitely, and temporarily banned on Twitter.

President-elect Biden condemned the mob in a speech on Wednesday, saying "It's not protests. It's insurrection."

The FBI has released a call for information on social media for tips on the individuals who participated in the riots.
