In 2003, Xfire released the Xfire Client, the first product to bring the outside world into your games. Since its humble beginnings as a simple chat client it has steadily grown to enable users to take screenshots, videos, and live broadcasts and share them on the Xfire Social Website. Attracting over 24 million users into a healthy and vibrant community, it set the standard for the socialization of PC Games.

Twelve years bring a lot of change to an industry. This is especially true in the fast paced world of gaming and the dynamics of the industry have changed significantly in this time. Since Xfire was first released, we’ve seen 3 console generations, the advent of mobile gaming, the transition from packaged games to digital distribution, and the rise of Free To Play games.

It's been years since i have used Xfire client.

Loved and used the crap out of the client since the beginning, even after Steam came on the scene. Odd that I finally made the decision to remove it less than a week ago, and now this.
I'll miss the official Grandma's Boy theme I used that was available all of one day before they pulled it, lol.

Wow blast from the past. I completely forgot this existed, and  i used it all the time not that long ago. It is just that since ALL my friends had steam (cause you basically have to, to PC game) and only a few had xfire, it just slowly faded away for me.

Dang. I havent used Xfire in years either, but back in the day it was THE messaging program me and my buddies used. I had a whole bunch of recorded videos too from our gameplay sessions. I'm trying to reacquire them right now.

Yowzsers  - I had forgotten about that program too. I used it for at least 5 years , then STEAM migrated in and didn't feel the need for both , so..... it faded away.

I wonder if in 5 more years , we'll be reading about this article telling about STEAM is finally being closed down ? - bought out by someone or bankrupt do to some kind of insider scandal ??

One of the first chat programs to show what games friends are playing and allow you to see server info. I remember using it for Battlefield 2 and Soldier of Fortune 2 double helix.

I remember "winning" that damn Stride sweepstakes. You added accounts for each of the games and would get a message from one if you won. I happened to receive a message from a BF2142 account, but didn't have the game... almost bought it a week prior, but didn't. I lost the prize because of that.
