YouTube Shorts is getting a new feature that lets you remix your favourite music videos. Whether you want to use the original sound, collaborate with the artist, react to the video, or cut a specific scene, you can now do it all with the Remix button.
The Remix button is available on the music video’s page, next to the Share button. When you tap it, you’ll see a floating menu with four options to choose from:
Sound: This option lets you use the music video’s audio in your own Short. You can lip-sync, dance, or do whatever you want with the sound.
Collab: This option lets you create a split-screen Short with the music video. You can adjust the size and position of each screen, and choose from different layouts.
Green Screen: This option lets you use the music video as the background of your Short. You can film yourself reacting to the video, or pretend to be in it.
Cut: This option lets you select a 5-second clip from the music video and add it to your Short. You can repeat the clip as many times as you like, or mix it with other clips.
The Remix feature is rolling out to YouTube creators starting February 15. You’ll see the Remix option on YouTube when you watch music videos.
If you’re familiar with YouTube Shorts, you may have seen some of these options before, but only for remixing other Shorts. Now, you can remix any music video on YouTube, and create your own unique Shorts.
But that’s not all. YouTube has also been testing vertical live streams for Shorts creators, which allow them to earn money from Super Chat donations and memberships. And it has also launched a “recomposition” tool, which helps creators transform their long-form videos into Shorts. Plus, it has introduced “Create,” a new app that offers AI-powered tools to make video editing easier and faster.
Bottom line: YouTube is clearly investing a lot in its Shorts feature, and wants to make it more fun and creative for its users.
