Three strippers seeking thrills encounter a young couple in the desert. After dispatching the boyfriend, they take the girl hostage and begin scheming on a crippled old man living with his two sons in the desert, reputedly hiding a tidy sum of cash. They become house guests of the old man and try and seduce the sons in an attempt to locate the money, not realizing that the old man has a few sinister intentions of his own.

Russ Meyer shoots Tura Satana in this like Don Siegel shoots Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry: iconic, formidable, instantly legendary, a screen god. Nobody shot a woman like that before, and nobody's done it since.
This is the movie promised in all of those exploitation trailers from the era with their screaming copy and hyperbolic narration. Those other movies are all disappointing on some level, but FASTER, PUSSYCAT not only fulfills its checklist of sex, violence, and rock n' roll, but it also adds qualities one wouldn't even expect were possible in this realm of filmmaking. The self-consciously pulpy dialogue dances between the oddly poetic (Dan Clowes's ears perked up at "like a velvet glove cast in iron") and the sophomoric pun ("everything we touch is hard"), always with a certain cadence that's easy to identify but nearly impossible to recreate.

Print was in great condition.
This is the first time I've seen this film on the big screen and seeing it this way made me appreciate Meyer's craft even more so. His framing, editing and production design are simply delectable.

The line on Russ Meyer is that he's (as Elaine Benes put it) obsessed with breasts, but it seems to me that in his universe practically everything onscreen gets fetishized in one way or another: Boobs, yeah, but also biceps, spinning car tires, fried chicken, switchblades, puns, water, dust.

Russ Meyer's cult as fuck Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is one mean mother of a movie with more chops to the side of the neck than a butchers deep freezer. Also has the most sassy, saucy saxophone soundtrack going ... so yeah, go get some!
