Stella McCartney: Designing Meghan’s reception gown was ‘humbling’ career moment

Designer Stella McCartney gushed about getting to dress Meghan Markle for her evening wedding reception, calling the moment “the most humbling” of her career.

“I am so proud and honored to have been chosen by the Duchess of Sussex to make her evening gown and represent British design,” McCartney told Women’s Wear Daily in an interview published Sunday.

“It has truly been one of the most humbling moments of my career, and I am so proud of all the team on this stunning royal day.”

The bride, 36, was pictured in a slinky, lily white, halter-neck creation by the British designer as she headed to Frogmore House with her groom in a 1968 Jaguar convertible after their nuptials.

Celebrity stylist Lucas Armitage estimated that the backless, flowing gown set the new Duchess back around $100,000, including fittings and the silk crepe fabric, the Daily Mail reported.

McCartney was busy ahead of the big day.

She also dressed the mother-of-the-bride, Doria Ragland, in a scarlet long-sleeved dress for the evening event. And Amal Clooney and Oprah Winfrey wore creations by the designer for the service at St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The new bride has worn the designer before, donning a navy cape dress at the Queen’s birthday party in April, and there had been rumors she would be tapped as wedding designer, Page Six reported.
