Despite the photographic presence of an acoustic guitar (the rock & roll equivalent of a rubber bullet), the enviably lovely hair and the unassuming knitwear, Sheryl Crow is staring back at us from the cover of The Very Best Of with her chin resting on a fist clenched tightly with white-knuckled defiance. This is, after all, the girl whose wishful thinking led her to sing "All I wanna do is have some fun" while privately preferring to either curl up in bed for a very long time or roll over and die (she's recently come out of the closet with regards to her longstanding battles with depression).

I do not claim to be any sort of music aficionado, but I know what I like, and when I saw this album in the $5 selection posted on 1 June, I thought, hey, why not? I like happy music most of the time, and much of Sheryl Crow's music fills that bill.

The tracks have great sound quality, and there are enough that I already know and like that this was a good deal at $5.

Sheryl Crow is probably one of the most talented songwriters and musicians out today. This CD really showcases her versatility as both. She sings about cutting loose and having fun on the songs Soak Up The Sun and All I Want to Do. They are very good tunes to dance to. I loved the hit duet Picture with Kid Rock. His voice and Sheryl Crow's voice sound great together. Sheryl Crow is so good singing about the pain and difficulty of trying to get over failed relationships. Her vocal delivery on the songs Strong Enough and The Difficult Kind are very moving. The First Cut is the Deepest sounds better than the original version by Cat Stevens.
I loved Sheryl Crow's songs about adventure and escape. Steve McQueen is a great rock song about rebellion and fast cars. I have always liked her choices of song titles too. I love the song title If It Makes You Happy and Every Day Is A Winding Road, because they always sounded interesting and somewhat philosophical to me. This CD is a wonderful collection and retrospective of Sheryl Crow's musical career. I enjoyed it very much.

The sound quality is great, and the tracks I like were reproduced perfectly. Sheryl Crow fans who are after a collection will love it.
