Magnificent Sediento Malbec from Argentina is only $8.99 a bottle | Phil Your Glass

Sediento Malbec from Argentina is sold at a too-good-to-be-true price of $8.99.

We all thirst for a good bottle of wine at an affordable price. Especially this time of year. First the credit card bills from our holiday deficit spending arrive, and now the property taxes are due. I refuse to give up my nightly glass of wine with dinner just to save a few bucks. And I won’t fill my glass with some cheap swill, either. I’m sure many of you are in the same predicament. So cue up the "Mission Impossible" theme song and keep reading.

I popped in at North End in Hudson to see a friend and have a glass of wine. They have $15 wine flights and a pretty interesting glass pour list. I trusted her to pick out the wines for me. She said she would let me know what I was drinking and the bottle price after I had tasted them. It turns out that my favorite was Sediento Malbec from Argentina. I almost fell off of my bar stool after learning that this magnificent Mendoza malbec was only $8.99 a bottle. Not to mention that one of the other four wines sold for $50 a bottle.

Phil Your Glass:Clay Shannon is a shockingly delicious cabernet for less than $20

Sediento, which means “thirsty” in Spanish, was a fabulous companion with my Kobe beef burger. And why wouldn’t it be? I don’t eat a lot of beef, but this tasty burger has me reconsidering.

Further home research had me sipping a glass while enjoying a chicken burrito from El Malecon Mexican Grill. It operates out of a North Hill food truck on Elma Street behind the Peoples Bank. My $11 order of two chicken burritos, rice, beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole was certainly enough to share. If you are keeping score at home, that’s a $20 date night, including wine.

I loved the red fruit flavors of this bottle. It also paired nicely with a hunk of organic Gouda cheese from Gallucci’s Italian Foods in Cleveland as well as a few feta-stuffed olives from Krieger’s Market in Cuyahoga Falls. Couldn’t have been happier with how it went with my burrito. Save a few sips to have with a handful of dark-chocolate-covered almonds. You’ll thank me later.

Stay thirsty, my friends.

Buy this wine at Mustard Seed Market, Krieger’s Market, Cornerstone Market in Munroe Falls, Beau’s Market in Copley, North End in Hudson, and Fishers on Fulton in Canton.
