René Pérez, Calle 13’s Residente, has announced on Instagram that he is working on a solo album.
Pérez has written multiple posts on social media over the last week describing a stay in the Siberian forest, where he said he had traveled to work on what he called “the Residente album.” He also posted photos of himself cutting logs and doing a traditional Tuvan eagle dance.
Last month, Pérez told Billboard that he was writing and recording songs in Brooklyn, where he currently lives with his wife and baby son.
“I’m putting all my effort into something new and original and great,” he said.

Eduardo Cabra, Pérez’s half brother, known as Calle 13’s Visitante, lives in the duo’s native Puerto Rico. According to his Instagram, Cabra was at Abbey Road Studios in London while Pérez was in Russia.
It was not yet clear whether Cabra and Pérez will continue recording together as Calle 13, or whether their upcoming tour dates could be a swan song for the record-breaking Latin Grammy-winning group. Calle 13’s most recent album, Multi_Viral, won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative album and the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards Latin Rhythm Artist of the Year, Duo or Group category.
The band is set to appear May 30 at Revolution Fest in Guadalajara, Mexico, followed by dates in Spain, France, Germany and Switzerland.
