After a couple of decades of one smash album after another, and an endless string of sold-out stadium and arena shows, the reggaeton vocalists Wisin & Yandel are calling it quits – at least for now – with their final tour. They’re bringing it to Agganis Arena on Oct. 15.

Longtime fans will be prepared for a night of high-octane music, spectacular visuals, and an enthusiastic performance from the two guys with the microphones (real names: Juan Morera and Lladel Vegilla). At a typical Wisin & Yandel show, most audience members seem to know all of the words, and either take part in some call and response or sing along in unison. They probably even know all of the moves on display by the energetic dancers scattered around the stage.

For the uninitiated, reggaeton covers a lot of different sounds, the most obvious of which is reggae, which originated in Jamaica in the 1960s. But when bits of dancehall and Latino music started becoming part of the mix over in Panama in the ’90s, the straight-up reggae merged into what was to be called Reggae en Espanol (Jamaican songs sung in Spanish). By the time the infectious music hit the underground scenes of Puerto Rico, it included a taste of hip-hop. The new sound became known as reggaeton.

The Grammy-winning, multi-platinum-certified team of Wisin & Yandel, since their debut album “Reyes del Nuevo Milenio” in 2000, have introduced different nuances to their shows and recordings. Hence, all of those dancers and a layer of electronics to accompany the basic lineup of guitars, drums, and keyboard.

In recent years, though they had gone on hiatus as an act, they continued to put out music as solo artists, but still contributed to each other’s work, and had a huge reunion concert at Madison Square Garden in 2018.

They’ve stated that the current tour will feature lots of hits as well as material from their most recent album “Recordar” and their upcoming “La Última Misión.”
