Colin Farrell's 10 grooming tips
We talk to the Phone Booth and In Bruges star and latest leading man of True Detective
What is your favourite spa treatment?
'Massages. It's tragic, I'm actually addicted to massages. A lot of that is to do with touch because I love being touched - I'm a big hugger. I love a good hug and a two-handed handshake that nearly turns into a handhold. I also like saunas - there is a Russian bathhouse that I go to in Los Angeles. It's a nice way to kill a couple of hours because life can be hectic. To go somewhere for a while and sit in a quiet space, it's therapeutic.'
How do you get ready for a holiday?
'By going to whatever class I can find that fits in with my schedule - with the kids and school runs and that kind of stuff. I do a good bit of hot yoga, in 100 degrees.'
Do you ever detox?
'I drink loads of green juice, almost my bodyweight in it.'
What shaving products do you like to use?
'Whatever I find in my cabinet, truly. I think I have Nivea. I didn't even know Nivea did shaving foam for men, but I think I remember splashing some of that on the other day. I don't know how it got there.'
What is your holiday scent?
'I haven't worn a fragrance for about 20 years but recently I've started to wear Dolce & Gabbana Intenso - I think it's beautiful.'
Do you like to play any team sports?
'I played football until I was 14 for a local team. I started off as a striker and ended up in goal. It was a good representation of how impatient I could be. I couldn't stay in one place.'
Has your attitude towards your appearance changed as you've grown older?
'I'm still not much of a groomer. If I'm going out to dinner I will throw some pomade in my hair. But I keep it to a minimum. Sometimes I'll shave and mess around with a goatee or a moustache. Or I'll let my beard grow for four weeks. I don't get attached to one particular way of looking.'
Would you put on or lose weight for a big film role?
'Money is a great motivator. When I am not motivated, I'll hike in the hills here in Los Angeles. The hills are a 20-minute drive from anywhere in the city and then you're surrounded by coyotes and raccoons, and peregrine falcons. It's so beautiful to get out. I do that for fun but going to the gym and lifting weights is such a drag and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. But I do it because sometimes the job dictates that I must.'
If you could pack just one item what would it be?
'Rembrandt toothpaste and a toothbrush on which to squeeze my Rembrandt toothpaste. That's pretty much it.'
Would you ever consider having any cosmetic surgery?
'Surgery? No, my knees are good.'
