Rihanna's next album, whenever it comes out, may be the most anticipated in the entire music industry, but at tonight's Grammys ceremony, the singer was absent. While we would've loved to see Rihanna's maternity style on the red carpet, her skipping the awards show is unsurprising given she isn't nominated for any awards this year. Her last album, Anti, was released in 2016. There is a chance Rihanna could attend a Grammys after-party later this evening, though. She went to Beyoncé and Jay Z's Oscars after-party last week.

Rihanna is currently expecting her first child with A$AP Rocky (who isn't nominated for any Grammys this year either). She assured Entertainment Tonight in February that her pregnancy hasn't stopped her from working on new music.

She told the outlet that although she's focused on “one thing at a time,” that new album will still come someday. “Yes, you're still going to get music from me," she said, adding it won't be a lullaby track. “My fans would kill me if they waited this long for a lullaby.”

In March 2020, Rihanna spoke to British Vogue about her next music project. “I can’t say when I’m going to drop,” she started. “But I am very aggressively working on music.”

“I don’t want my albums to feel like themes,” she added. “There are no rules. There’s no format. There’s just good music, and if I feel it, I’m putting it out.”

She confirmed reports that she will be releasing a reggae album too with a chuckle. “Oh no, that is happening,” she said, adding she won't be confined by any rules or expectations though. “I feel like I have no boundaries. I’ve done everything—I’ve done all the hits, I’ve tried every genre—now I’m just, I’m wide open. I can make anything that I want.”
