Legendary Mexican singer Vicente Fernández hospitalized after a fall at his ranch

Vicente Fernández wrote before undergoing surgery: “Don't give up on your dreams. Dedicating myself in this life to singing was the best decision I could make … Chente is still the king."

After suffering a fall at his ranch, Vicente Fernández underwent cervical surgery, with doctors reporting him in critical, but stable, condition.

"We thank the media, as well as his loyal followers, and on behalf of his medical team, with the permission of the Fernández Abarca family, inform that the current state of Don Vicente Fernández is undoubtedly serious, but stable, the sequence of trauma caused by the fall itself that generated a spinal cord injury to the cervical spine," read an official statement on Instagram.

Due to the surgery, the 81-year-old singer remains in intensive care.

"At this post-operative time, he is undergoing ventilatory assistance and critical patient care in the Intensive Care unit. Thanking everyone for their concern. They will be kept informed according to developments," officials stated.

Vicente leaves a message

Before the medical information was released, the singer left a message on his social media sites that worried his fans.

"No se rindan ante sus sueños. Dedicarme en esta vida a cantar fue la mejor decisión que pude tomar… Chente sigue siendo el rey," Fernandez stated.

(Don't give up on your dreams. Dedicating myself in this life to singing was the best decision I could make… Chente is still the king.)

Fernández family encouragement   

His son, Alejandro Fernández, and his grandchildren, Camila and Alex Fernández, expressed their love for him through messages.

"Te amo Pa" (I love you Pa), Alejandro Fernández shared on Instagram.

Camila for her part posted a photo next to her grandfather and daughter, with a message full of love.

Te amamos tata, eres la fuerza de todos" (We love you tata, you are our strength), she wrote on Instagram.

Alex Fernández, whom Vicente has supported in his artistic career, expressed his admiration for him on Instagram as well.

Eres un guerrero, tata. Te amo” (You are a warrior, tata. I love you), he commented.
