Xfire.com
Xfire is yet another free option for both broadcasting and recording videos. Xfire can record video quality on par with Fraps, but the file sizes are absolutely huge! Thirty-four seconds of video of Heroes of Newerth, just in the lobby with no sound, was one gig! However, Xfire has an excellent, easy-to-use broadcasting option that is suitable for most people's streaming needs.
First you will have to head over to
www.xfire.com and download Xfire client, as well as register for an account.
After you download and install Xfire, it will automatically detect the games you have installed on your system. You can also manually add games, through
Tools -> Options -> Games.
After logging in, it is time to set up your Xfire settings. Navigate to
Tools, then
Options.
Now, to set up your video settings, go to the
Video tab.
Make sure you enable
Video Capture, and change your key binding to something convenient. Your FPS can range from 25-30. Twenty-five is not noticeably different, so it is a good option.
You can choose to have your cursor recorded or not, whatever is your personal preference. Change your
Video Capture Folder to the one of your choice.
Make sure your audio device is set to
Stereo Mix.
See more details how to setup Stereo Mix.
If you are using a USB headset, you cannot record on stereo mix, as the audio is all processed through the headset. You must use speakers or a non USB headset.
After that, boot up your game and press your video recording hotkey. It should then start recording to your destination folder.
In order to broadcast, you have to navigate to the
Broadcast tab. Make sure you enable
Broadcast and change the key bind to something you prefer. Change the quality, depending on how fast your internet is, or by guessing and checking with the quality of your stream. If you want to stream audio, check this option, and then set up your audio.
