Jennifer Lopez has cut her hair into an edgy bob, and we did a double-take

Hair transformations don't get much bigger – or better – than this.

Do our eyes deceive us? Has Jennifer Lopez – the high priestess of long, immaculately blow-dried waves – just opted for a bob? Not just any bob, either, but an edgy, wet-look bob at that?

The Can't Get Enough singer debuted her new look at Schiaparelli’s spring/summer 2024 haute couture show in Paris on Monday, proving that sometimes the most-talked about fashion moments happen on the front row rather than on the catwalk.

Cut to just below her ear, J.Lo's new hair was styled in a centre parting and slicked back, save for a few loose tendrils falling either side of her face in a nod to the ‘90s. Sticking with the theme, the ends, which hugged the high collar of her white jumper, were flicked out, reminiscent of Drew Barrymore’s iconic flip bob.

Perhaps most striking of all was just how undone the whole look was from the woman who made high-maintenance hair her trademark and single-handedly put the ‘bombshell’ into bombshell blowout. Gone are the artfully crafted waves and in its place are unfussy, straight strands with a bit of root lift. As J.Lo waved to fans, she looked like she'd just stepped out of the shower, with the wet-look finish showing off her honey highlights.

At 54, Jennifer Lopez is following in the footsteps of Pamela Anderson, who also used Paris to reveal a shiny new beauty look. In Pamela's case it was to ditch her signature "Pamcore" makeup – all over-lined ‘90s lips and smoky eyes – and go makeup free. It caused a reaction, too, but what both women are proving is that age is no barrier to embracing a transformative new look.

Various iterations of the bob hairstyle – from the curly bob to the butterfly bob and mushroom bob – reigned supreme last year, and it's already on track to be the celebrity cut du jour for 2024. Only last week, Penélope Cruz jumpstarted the trend by opting for a longer length glass bob with a smooth, ultra shiny finish.

Now you can expect J.Lo's '90s bob to become the coolest – and most requested – haircut of the year so far.
