Mary-Kate and Ashley fans, rejoice, our time has finally come…

From Lizzo to J.Lo, it seems that all the most iconic women of the moment are getting their own documentaries (although we're waiting for a Blu Ivy doc since those iconic photos were released). And now we can add Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to the list. Yep, the child stars who rocked our worlds with their string of tween and teen films and then, laterly, their sartorial finesse through their fashion empire, are the subject of a brand new mini-documentary out and ready to watch now on WePresent – the digital arts platform of WeTransfer who commissioned the film.

It's probably the documentary you never really saw coming, given that the stars keep themselves pretty much to themselves, but The Twins, created by mega fan turned researcher, Zara Meerza, unpicks the the public’s – and his own – fascination with the duo, from the chic they embody to the mystery that surrounds them.

In a recent interview with WeTransfer, Zara said: “Because of social media, there’s just no mystique about anyone anymore. [Our relationship with the Olsen twins] is an old-school form of fandom that doesn’t really exist anymore. We only can get what they choose to give us; it’s not like we can seek things out.

“There’s something really powerful about them being pure individuals, but still so united.”

Adding: “Perhaps at the end of the day, we’re all Mary-Kates looking for our Ashleys.” We feel those words in our heart.

What will The Twins documentary be about?

The documentary is hosted by lifelong Olsen twins fan, Zara Meerza (honestly, he's got our dream job!), as she explores the pair's impact on Y2K culture, fashion and entertainment, as well as our global fascination with twins in general. It's been described as a “a more unconventional take on the pop culture documentary" – we don't really know what means but we're excited.

“[I] never failed to be surprised when I met more and more people as I got older who maintained the same level of excitement about the twins, even after they largely moved out of the public eye,” Meerza said in a statement. “After a few years of working in the documentary field, a practice where you examine the intention of everything, I began to think about my, and all of our, affection for the twins and started to revisit their materials, falling deeper into studies of twinship and mystery than I could’ve imagined.”

Where can you watch The Twins?

Well, right here.

Yep, grab yourself a Capri-Sun or a SunnyD ('90s kids know) and settle in for 13 minutes of unbridled nostalgia as we take a trip back through the Olsen twins' lives and careers, exploring their greater impact on society as we go.

And, when you're done, why not joining us in rewatching all the MK & Ashley classics? It Takes Two, followed by Holiday In The Sun (seeing as we might not actually be getting one ourselves this year, thanks to travel chaos), anyone? We can forgive the grainy quality of the films for the Olsen nostalgia.
