He tells her he has come to protect her and her brother and takes her underground, against her will to save her, where they meet others like them. She begins to unravel the truth about Merrick, about what he's really doing here, about the way he looks at her, about the crazy dangerous world they live in. Can he convince her that he's here to help? Will she like what she finds when she opens up to the truth? Will he be the one to love her when everyone else has failed her? Will he be able to protect her?

September 17, 2016Oh, where to start....This was my first book. I wrote it with absolutely NO intentions of having it published, looking into being published or ever in my life EVER letting anyone read it. I was in a rut of books to read and had a dream (I know every author says that). But actually, the dream wound up being nothing like what the book turned out to be. It was kinda Matrix-y. And after many, many long nights of talking to my husband I decided to share their story with you.
Writing Sherry and Merrick's story was, for lack of any other word to describe it, awesome! I love them. I love the way they fell in love and how this story practically wrote itself without any help from me. I stayed up until 4am almost every night with this book and finished Collide and Uprising in six weeks' time. This book was my baby and I am thrilled to continue on with the story though I have started other series as well.
So thank you readers for holding my baby in your hands and hopefully you enjoy it. Thank you! My readers are the best in the world!

Blah.
Like many before me have stated; I wanted to like it. I loved the premise, the alien/angel idea was interesting and different.
But. Oh my Lord... Sherry. If I had to read one more page of her dull, monotonous, droning I would have exploded. I am on a 'finish every book you start' kick. But, gosh, if it weren't for that I would have deleted this from my kindle about half way through, not missing a beat.
Shelly Crane is a mediocre writer. She has fabulous ideas; I have read some of her other books and enjoyed them, but her editing is a disaster. It almost seems as though she writes it, never re-reads and slaps a price on it. Bam! on the Amazon shelves.
The tense changes had me squirming, the number of sentences I had to re-read was astonishing. I felt like an illiterate fool. Words were obviously missing from sentences, the wrong 'there, their or they're' used and a number of other irritating errors.
That brings me to the love story. BLAND. OH SO BORING, fall in love after a tedious and excruciating number of chapter that listen to Sherry self-depricate and fish for compliments, even though, of COURSE she is the MOST BEAUTIFUL, MOST LOVELY, MOST FRAGILE, MOST PERFECT woman in the history of the world. She has a number of sex-crazed men utterly devoted to her.
Shelly Crane has twilight syndrome. The 'My main character is what I wish I was, therefore she will be so perfect, so modest, so wonderful, so beautiful (without knowing it) and every man will faun after her/me' complex. KILL ME.

the first time I saw this book I thought the story would be...pretty good and then I started reading it and it was great but when I started reading chapter...10( I guess), the story was really really bad!!
do you guys want to know why I really really hate this book?
1. The Story
Merrick is a keeper and his job is to keep watching his special, Danny (Sherry's brother) but unfortunately he fall in love with Sherry while watching Danny from...sky?? actually, I don't know where the keepers are live and then the moon dissapears and people start to go missing too ( weird right??)
but then they reappeared but they different, their hair are black, their eyes are black and their skin are pale and they start acting weird too and these people called The Lighter, the bad guys and they're the reason why the moon dissapears, it's not dissapears actually, it just don't have the light anymore because all the Lighters are here, in Earth.( another weird story!)
they come to Earth because they want to take Earth and kill all the humans.
at the first day I read this book I actually liked it, really really liked it because I thought the action in this book would be great, and do you know what I got???
I GOT NOTHING!!! * screams*

The Main Characters
most the time the main characters spent their time by kissing each other! Seriously!?!?!?!
I really wanted to punch Sherry because the aliens were invading earth and you both kept kissing!!! UGH!!
I thought they would work together and killed the bastards but NO! they didn't do that they just kissed, kissed and kissed! if I could slap Sherry, I would love to do that!
and this wasn't even the worst part !!! the worst part was when Merrick asked Sherry to be his wife and I was like " WHAT THE- WHAT KIND OF BOOK IS THIS!?!? WHERE'S THE ACTION PART!?!? HOW COULD YOU ASKED HER TO BE YOUR WIFE WHILE THE ALIENS ARE GETTING CRAZY AND CRAZY!?!?"
I always talked to myself that maybe the action part was at the middle of the book, I kept telling myself that but I already knew the truth but I still denied it.. * sighs*
I'm so tired to read this kind of book, really really tired...
I actually a little bit cried when I finished this book because I just felt so sad and so angry about the story.
I don't want to read this kind of book anymore, this book makes me afraid to read another books with insta love, I'm afraid if I read another book with insta love, I will end up like this again * sighs*
I don't want to recommend this book to anyone, but if you guys still want to try it then it's okay, but I do recommend this book to anyone who loves reading Insta-Love without many action scenes.

SPOILERS: I am seriously conflicted with this book. The premise is very interesting, aliens come to earth in the form of beings called The Lighters. The Lighters look just like humans except for black eyes. The Lighters have come to earth and are basically mind controlling humans into believing that they are the good guys. There are humans that have been dubbed "specials" that have a specific task to carry out but what that individual task is is unknown, finally you have The Keepers, guardians of the Specials who are charged with watching over the specials from birth.
In Collide a keeper by the name of Merrick is in charge of watching over Danny, however in the course of watching over Danny he falls in love with Danny's sister Sherry. This sounds like the makings of a great love story. I was pretty hooked for the first half of the book and then the author's obvious writing flaws painstakingly were revealed. For starters, the character of Sherry was about as interesting as a wet noodle. She reeked of Bella Swan like qualities, brown hair, brown eyes, short, self sacrificing to a fault, every boy who meets her falls in love with her however, as she tells the reader ad nauseam she's so plain and ordinary. Merrick actually takes the human form of Sherry's abusive ex-boyfriend, which she gets over in about two minutes because his eyes are green and her douchebag ex's were brown. The love story that unfolds between Merrick and Sherry reads like something out of a 14 year olds diary. Merrick and Sherry fall in love so quickly that 3/4 of the book was just scenes of them professing their love in this over wrought sappy way. In fact they started to refer to each other as "honey and babe" which was so grating I almost wanted to vomit. Every single character in the book was one sided with the exception of the character Phillip who becomes so obsessed with her that he attacks her. I liked it because at least he showed a different emotion than the other minor characters whom all were just so boringly nice and uninteresting.
The author missed an opportunity to really play out the alien/human love story with all of its complexities and strangeness but instead filled up the pages with each character, Sherry/Merrick praising their love for the other to excruciating lengths. I wanted to hear more about Merrick's home, his life besides obsessively watching Sherry for all those years. But he became so one-sided the only thing his character ever did or say was about how awesome Sherry was, or cute or sexy. By the end I forgot he was an alien and he just came off like an obsessed teenager. The story felt like it was building towards something but what became apparent was the utter redundancy of the entire plot. So many scenes were just completely unneccessary and just bogged down the pacing of the book. If she cut out one of the 9 million cutesy let's all watch Sherry sing or play the piano scenes she could have actually gotten in a decent Lighter interaction. The only interesting thing that occurred was when the Taker attacked Sherry. However, that was pretty much the extent of the action in the book. With so many people living "underground" together there should have been more personality clash or something more interesting instead it was one giant love fest that included pretty much every character fawning over Sherry.
I liked the premise of this book so much but it just became too much. When the book ended and yet another male character, this one new, appeared to also have a thing for Sherry I just couldn't even stomach it.
There is a really great story here the author just needs to get over her obsession with these two characters, whom she made so boring, and get back to the crux of this story, the alien invasion. There were no great clashes with the Lighters save for one minor one. This should have been a huge element to the story instead they were relegated to an unknown off page nemesis. If I am being honest this was really a 2.5 star book but what saved it is that I was intrigued enough in the beginning. I'm sure I will read the follow-up to this book but hope it gets back on track.

This book was interesting in the beginning, but then as I read on the characters never reached any form of development, barely any conflict occurred, and everything just started to annoy the shit out of me.
Sherry. Sweet, sweet Sherry. You quickly became a one sided redundant character and I'm astounded as to how uninteresting you were.
The amount of times Sherry said "hmm" made me want to bang my head against a wall. She was talking in past tense, but then she would add in those little "Oh!" or "Gah!" or the dreaded "Hmmm" as if it was currently happening. She went from present tense to past tense in one paragraph, and always complained about her looks. The amount of self-hate she gives herself is really not okay, and not once in the book does she ever change her opinion of herself. That isn't normal. She needs help. I know girls battle with self image, I do as well. But if you put yourself down for every little thing about yourself and what you do, that's not okay. And whenever she stands up for herself or says something, she instantly regrets it because "she was being too mean." She then adds that to her list of things she hates about herself. "I'm really uninteresting wow I have muddy brown hair and ugly brown eyes I'm so plain and average wow who would like me? I'm such a freak." I didn't care at first, but then she was incessantly telling this opinion over and over, ending up with someone from the group rushing to her defense and telling her how wonderful and beautiful she was. No one in the story hated her. Not a single one. They all worshiped her and acted like she was a saint from Heaven. She cooked, she cleaned, she was forgiving, she saved a life; she did everything. And the only male in the book who wasn't horny was her was her own brother. Every guy in the book fell in love with her and wanted to fuck her. She never even had the balls to tell them to fuck off when they practically threw themselves at her. When her ex-boyfriend Matt tries to rape her, and beats her, she doesn't even fucking call the cops. She lets him go day after day to her door and yell at her and try to break in. Are you fucking kidding me? Then when Merrick claims Matt's body; she gets over it in like 10 minutes. Again, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. She finds it completely okay because they have different color eyes. She even goes as far to state that it wasn't Matt's body, because he didn't know how to use it like Merrick did. At this point I wanted to strangle her. Oh my God.
Adding in the fact that there was barely any action, or plot for that matter; the book ended up with just Merrick and Sherry confessing their love to each other and giving each other the bedroom eyes every time they were in the same room.
Merrick wasn't any better either. He had potential, until he focused all his attention on Sherry. I wanted to hear about their world, their life. Not about Sherry. At this point I don't give a fuck about Sherry. I'll care when it gets back to her POV.
This book frustrates me. That is all.

Sherry has a horrible boss, hippy parents and a lazy brother. She is lonely and her abusive ex-boyfriend doesn't make her life any better. But one day the moon goes missing and "visitors" show up in other peoples dead bodies. This is where her boring life makes a u turn.
So we have the Lighters who are bad. But they come to earth making people think they are good and that the Keepers are the bad guys. Which in all actuality the Keepers are good. In fact they are here watching over the Specials. Who are humans with a special purpose in their life, they just don't know what it is yet. Confused yet? Don't be. Shelly explains the whole story clearly. She pulls you in and you just want to stay there and never leave. I was constantly thinking about it when I wasn't reading it and forcing myself to put it down so I could go to sleep late at night.
Characters...oh wow the characters. I love these people if they were my own family..if not better. She gives each character the perfect amount of attention so you know who they are. My favorite? Merrick of course. I adore him. So adorable and cute and funny. But best of all so protective and loving. I want a Merrick of my own. *And I will hug him and squeeze him and call him George, er Merrick* Well hubby might not approve of this. Oh well. Sherry can have him for now. I love how everyone bands together and become a family living in hiding. What a great group of people, taking care of each other and being there during the times it was needed.
Like I said before, your drawn into the story. Riding on the highs of love right along with the characters...and fearing the unknown of a world spiraling out of control. The story and the characters stay with you long after your done reading.

Well, where do I start......
I was so excited to order my signed copy of Collide after reading Significance. The epic love story had pulled my emotions in every which way. The comedy, drama, betrayal, and overall "rawness" of the story had me hooked. So I wasn't surprised that Collide did the exact same thing. Shelly Crane, you are amazing! How do you possibly combine such amazing characters with such amazing stories. This book takes a heartwarming and steamy love story with a brilliant plot that was enduring and subtle at the same time.
The protagonist, Sherry, was wonderful. Her lack of physical "toughness" was balances with her wonderful spirit. She was a natural leader (I saw) that held everyone together. I was actually VERY surprised when I found out she was, and it broke my heart from Sherry and Merrick's reaction to Sky.
Speaking of Merrick..... Oh. My. God. One of the best crushes ever. I love how he was very cautious with Sherry while still trying to deal with these new human "desires". He was also a great leader, and he worked very well with Jeff (whom I also loved!). I can't decide who is better: Merrick or Caleb!?
The actual story plot was written very nicely, and had a perfect pace considering there are four books in the series. The Keepers and the Specials vs. the Lighters and the Markers, with the humans so susceptible to the Lighters was really cool. Also,the underground bunker thing is totally awesome.
Overall, can't wait to read the next one!!

The protagonist, Sherry, was wonderful. Her lack of physical "toughness" was balances with her wonderful spirit. She was a natural leader (I saw) that held everyone together. I was actually VERY surprised when I found out she was, and it broke my heart from Sherry and Merrick's reaction to Sky.
Speaking of Merrick..... Oh. My. God. One of the best crushes ever. I love how he was very cautious with Sherry while still trying to deal with these new human "desires". He was also a great leader, and he worked very well with Jeff (whom I also loved!). I can't decide who is better: Merrick or Caleb!?
The actual story plot was written very nicely, and had a perfect pace considering there are four books in the series. The Keepers and the Specials vs. the Lighters and the Markers, with the humans so susceptible to the Lighters was really cool. Also,the underground bunker thing is totally awesome.
Overall, can't wait to read the next one!!

AWWWWWWWWEEEESSSSOOOMMMEEE !!!!! Wow this book is too good to be true ! Talk about romance in the midst of an alien invasion . I dont even know where to begin my view of this book . Shelly Crane is definitely a genius . She handles the subject of two people , well not exactly two because one of them is an alien known as a keeper , falling in love in the middle of an 'end of the world ' catastrophe really well . I read this book after reading 'Significance 'and 'Accordance' and was completely oblivious to what i was getting myself into . And i can definitely say this i was completely surprised to read what i read !!!
I wont bother getting into the story here because there is no way i can talk abotu this book without giving away a lot of spoilers . The characters are truly magnificient . Sherry is just fabulous . Merrick , too shy and cute but definitely hot . And then we have Danny , the protective younger brother who has surprises of his own . There are many other characters as well who contribute to this amazing story . I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel . This is an absolute read for sci-fi romance lovers !!! I didn't like it as much as signficance, but the story is original and kept me up until 2am reading! Recommend.

*sigh* I really wanted to love this book. I really did. The beginning trapped me and I thought there was no getting out. But, I found a window and crawled right out of it. First, let's go through the positives and without giving too much away. I liked the storyline. What was happening in the world was a pretty scary thought and I was very interested in seeing what would happen next. The idea of the Keepers coming in and keeping people safe was good too. I liked that there was an otherworldy being on our side. I liked Danny's character in the beginning because he felt very real to me, typical little slacker. I liked the interest Merrick had in Sherry... to begin with.
Then suddenly, I was getting annoyed with our main character. Sherry was supposed to be intelligent. At least I thought. She started to feel very dense to me. There were situations I felt should have been obvious, they were too obvious, and she still seemed to be in la-la land completely oblivious. I kept yelling, "come on Sherry!" at my Kindle. Her age also bothered me. She was 18-19 and had supposedly been to college? Did she graduate early or something? Did she not finish? Also, she was only a year older than Danny and yet more than once there was mention of her telling her mother to hold his head when he was an infant. Um, my kids are 15 months apart, my daughter was talking when baby brother came along, but she wasn't old enough to know that you have to hold a baby's head up. Maybe there should have been a few more years between them?
There were several things that bothered me. These Keepers are immortals. The prologue led me to believe this isn't their first battle with evil, so why do so many things keep stunning them? They should be more prepared than they are. Most of the book seemed to be about hiding and the love story. It was a bit too uneventful for an end-of-world story. Then the book seemed to have ended mid paragraph and that was strange, I thought a page was missing and was very disappointed.
Besides all that, this is the second time I've read a book that had the potential to be a five star, but was ruined with the lack of editing. I'm not picky, I don't need a perfect book. I can overlook a few typos, I make mistakes too. However, when errors are distracting me from the story... I have a problem. I got to a point where I started highlighting.

Okay, I feel torn writing this review. For a first time novelist with no one to really edit or critique her work and no previous writing experience, I am fairly impressed on how well she did. That being said, there are a LOT of grammatical errors in this book. Grammar and spelling aside, parts of the story were pretty fun to read. Here were a few good and bad things for me.
Even though I'm not always gung-ho for sci-fi, I liked the idea of the Lighters or aliens coming down and trying to take over the planet. I also liked the idea of the Specials and the Keepers who watch over and protect the Specials. I enjoyed the beginning of the story where Sherry and Merrick first met and the idea of Merrick, a Keeper, falling in love with his Special's sister. I liked Danny, Sherry's brother in the beginning because he seemed fairly realistic.
Okay, here comes the but. I liked parts of the story, BUT, there were plenty of parts that frustrated me. Like how I felt like there was NO character dimension. All of the relationships were pretty flat and stagnant for my taste. I mean there are tons of people living underground together all sharing like two bathrooms and everyone is just happy and loving and what not. I mean, in all honesty, people would probably be at each other's throats. To me the characters weren't that realistic.
Also, by the end of the book I was pretty frustrated by how EVERYONE loved Sherry. There was not one person who ever questioned her motives or didn't trust her completely upon their first meeting. Oh and there was the fact that practically every guy fell madly in love with her. There was just too much Sherry love going around for me. Speaking of Sherry, she was attacked A TON. After like the 5th time she got attacked or injured it started grating on my nerves. And I know she was supposed to be fragile and whatnot, but after so many guys tried to attack her, I found myself wanting to scream "USE YOUR KNEES GIRL! SERIOUSLY! LEARN HOW TO THROW SOME PUNCHES!!!!" If I were her, I'd be doing push-ups or something in my room with all of the rogue suitors flying her way.
Last thing I'm going to say is how you'd think the Keepers would be a little more prepared than they were. They seemed surprised at every turn and every creature that showed up shocked them. They also had no plans or ideas on how they were supposed to fix the world.

Wow! From the word go Shelly Crane had me wrapped up in her wonderful plot and her characters distinct personalities. This captivating paranormal romance was beautifully written and due to the preface tension was risen from the start which grabbed the readers attention. The author has done a brilliant job of creating a very unique YA/NA paranormal romance. She has managed to achieve this through her fantastic plot which grips you from the start.
The keepers and specials against the lighters and makers may seem like a very confusing story at first glance but it's not. Throughout the book we are slowly explained about the world of keepers and their special. Gathering little bits of information in each chapter as more heart stopping action occurs. The author has seamlessly woven her plot together filling it with action and romance without overwhelming the reader. Shelley Crane has managed to add the theme of romance which plays a big role from the beginning into her action packed book. One of the prominent features of this wonderful novel is the strong love which forms between the main character Sherry and keeper Merrick.
I loved Sherry as a main character although she had a fragile appearance she was very strong willed. Also she was extremely protective of her brother and everyone she came to love during the novel. Merrick is a great love interest in my opinion he had a very obvious personality from the start. Shelley Crane's leading male did not disappoint he was sweet, caring and incredibly protective. The love between Sherry and Merrick seems so real the reader can't help but become attached to these characters. As we watch Merrick become accustomed to his human body it shows us even more how he always puts Sherry first not wanting to force her into being with him. One of my favourite things about this book is seeing Merrick's point of view at significant parts of the novel his thoughts matched his personality exactly and I thought it was great having the males point of view.

I wish I could pin point what I didn't like about this one. I just couldn't find something that sparked my interest. I wasn't really sold on any character (I didn't like them but I didn't hate them either). I thought the "oh aliens have been here for year" weird and that there didn't seem to be mass hysteria. I also disconnected when no one seemed to have any issue with going into an underground bunker....because they were "special".
I wish I'd liked it more. Read it for a challenge, I'm glad I gave it a try.

I truly wanted to love "Collide." The premise for the book was truly unique and interesting; however, the storyline was greatly hampered by the overly syrupy dialogues of love, little to no action and scenes that just do not make sense.
18 year old Sherry and her brother Danny were raised by hippie parents. So, Sherry has been more of a parent to her brother. She has finished college (Really,at 18?) and is working as a photographer for a local tabloid. Additionally, she is being stalked by an abusive ex-boyfriend, Matt.
Then, one evening the moon is missing from our atmosphere and people are going missing. It seems reports of an alien invasion are rampant and a being known as a Keeper has taken over the body of Sherry's ex in an effort to get Danny and Sherry to safety. The only physical difference between Matt and the Keeper (Merrick) is Matt had brown eyes and Merrick has blue. Other keepers are here to assist other humans who have a destiny to fulfill. They are attempting to save the human race from a group of aliens who want our planet and resources.
The first 25% and last 25% of the story was fairly intriguing; but, the middle was a disaster. I had so many problems with the execution of the plot events. If your destiny is to prevent the take over of the planet why would anyone sit for 30 days in an underground bunker without planning your next move or strategy? Additionally, how many times can a main character almost get raped by three different men? Then there is the budding romance between Sherry and Merrick. First we have one chapter professing her interest and undying love for him. Then we have to read another chapter from Merrick's point of view professing his sappy undying love. This goes on scene after scene instead on focusing on the true plot, the alien invasion. I was so sick of "I love him more than anything" and "Today he kissed me and it was wonderful" that I almost screamed.
With all of this being said, I will go on to read the second book. Why? Because I already purchased it when I bought the first book. However, if there are any more books in this series and the writing does not improve, I am so done with "Collide."

Original Review: 4 stars -- Loved it!! I was so worried when I read a lot of reviews on Amazon about it being boring, but it wasn't even remotely -- totally enthralled! I guess it depends on the kinds of books you read and what you were expecting out of it. It only got 4 stars b/c I felt it ended really abruptly -- totally didn't see that coming. Almost like she hit a word count and was like -- time for the next book. I mean, I'm gonna read the next one, no worries there, but it just jarred me. It was also kind of strange b/c there were many smaller climaxes, without one overall climax. But *that* didn't bother me as much. Worried about the end developments, b/c I am in LOVE with Merrick and Sherry! Can't wait for more!
ON REREAD: 3 stars -- OK, so this one took me quite a while to get back into. Honestly, I'm not sure if this one has been updated since it was first published (b/c Amazon just will not send me updated copies of the books, no matter how many settings I change), but I was reading the original copy and the editing was ATROCIOUS. I originally read this book when I first got my kindle and was first introduced to Indie authors, and I think I was a lot more forgiving back then. It was hard to keep in the story at times it was that bad. I sincerely hope it's been reedited and rereleased and this was just my copy, b/c it would be worth the effort to do so.
I also found Sherry harder to like this time around. I don't know if I'm just in a different place, but she (and some of the other characters at times) could be really one dimensional. Again, another instance where some editing would make a world of difference.
Despite all that, I still got sucked into this story, and I still enjoyed myself by the end. I don't know what it is, b/c like I said in my original review, this story doesn't follow the normal structure of build up to a big climax...it's a lot of little climaxes. But I enjoyed the relationships that developed between all the hidden folks, especially between Sherry and Merrick and Sherry and Jeff. I smiled a lot, and I found the world to be intriguing, even if occasionally I had moments of disbelief. I'm definitely going to be continuing on with the rest of the series, but I do feel bad that I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first time through. I guess tastes change, eh?

Now I usually don't do aliens. Just because I find those books can be pretty hard to read. HOWEVER I enjoyed this book. It felt very long which I suppose was a little hard to read sometimes but I did enjoy this book as it was just a nice story.
I didn't get why everyone was in love with Sherry, I mean I suppose I get that she was very shy and had low self esteem so therefore the description of her told by her wouldn't seem much. It just seemed strange boys were obsessed with her.
I loved the fact Merrick didn't push her and their romance took a while (or at least for me ) to progress and that helped the book along in my opinion. There are lots and lots and lots of unanswered questions that come from this book and this could be a very interesting series.

I have no idea why I hadn't read this book before now! I loved absolutely everything about it! I loved the writing, the characters and the plot! First lets talk about the plot! WOW! It was so original and I just couldn't stop reading it! It had everything in it that I love and it was quite unexpected as I was expecting something completely different! It was also very interesting and paced perfectly! Next were the characters! I loved all of them! Sherry was the main character of Collide and I adored her! She was sweet and amazing! Merrick was the love interest of Sherry and he was protective and so hot! I loved Merrick and Sherry's relationship! It was written beautifully and I don't think that it was rushed because the story took place over quite a long period of time! There were also so many secondary characters and they brought so much to the story! I also really liked that Collide was told from both Sherry and Merrick's point of views! I am definitely going to read the rest of this series and I am really looking forward to doing so! The cover is also stunning! I didn't really see the significance of it at first until I had read Collide!

Wow!! I have already read several of Shelly's books and just love them... And Collide doesn't disappoint!!
After reading the synopsis, I was very curious as to what Collide was going to offer... Well, let me just say that I was pulled in from the very beginning and never lost interest all the way through...
I am amazed at the world Shelly has created... Plus, let's not forget the fabulous characters too!!
Collide centers around Sherry and Merrick. Sherry being a human of course and Merrick being the keeper. Not her keeper, but her brother's keeper...,but, of course Merrick wouldn't be able to only watch over her brother Danny... Sweet, strong, compassionate Sherry caught his eye and of course this shows the romance in this story is going to be great..
I thoroughly enjoyed Collide... Swept up in suspense, action, conflicts, romance, and an endearing strength of characters, it is definitely a book I recommend to anyone!!!

I didn't like it. I really hate to say this because I absolutely love Shelly Crane's writing. Her Significance series has one of my most favorite YA couples, Maggie and Caleb!
But I just couldn't connect with Sherry and Merrick, they were repetitive and they were always so down on themselves. They were awkward and the world building was strange and just very odd. I loved the concept of the plot, but I couldn't get into it. :\

This wasn't a bad read, but I can't say I enjoyed it that much. It just couldn't hold my interest very well, so I felt bored for a lot of it, which made it drag.

I picked Collide this week for my words with friend’s game on goodreads. Sherry is human but she’s not typical by any means. She has the ability to tell when people are lying, which can be good and bad. Suddenly the moon is gone, and aliens have arrived on earth changing everything. Sherry and her younger brother Danny are living at her house because her parents went off to welcome the aliens. When Sherry is confronted by her crazy abusive ex-boyfriend telling her that she and her brother need to come with him she’s far from thrilled with the idea. When Matt explains to Sherry he’s not the real Matt but an alien life form just in Matt’s body after he died and that he’s a keeper to save them.
The trio head off to a place where they will be safe from the aliens who want to take over the planet called Lighters. Danny is special and Merrick who is in Matt’s body is his Keeper, it’s been his mission to watch and protect Danny because one day he will do something special. What makes Sherry special to Merrick is that as he watched Danny when she was older he fell in love with her. More keepers show up with their charges, soon the building is full of an eclectic group of people. Sherry at first thinks that Merrick can’t stand her but learns that he loves her and she in turn falls in love with him. Yet their safe time is short lived when they encounter a marker who attacks Sherry forcing them all to leave and head out into the world looking for safety in smaller groups.
Sherry’s group finds a new place to live with another keeper and his charge as well as her son. Her son Phillip's is intent on breaking Merrick and Sherry up determined that she is meant for him. Yet when they travel to town for supplies they learn that the Taker is in town. They also encounter a Muse who forces Sherry to see what she wouldn’t see normally. When Phillip runs off the group will have to worry about his intentions as well as the threat of the Taker. Will they be able to stop the Taker?
Sherry is this short cute girl with a feisty personality with a low self-esteem when it comes to men plus she’s stubborn. She the kind of character you can relate to because she’s not tall leggy and blond with a perfect life. I think her relationship with Merrick is super sweet; it’s just so innocent even if he is living in the body of her ex-boyfriend which she’s able to get over. I think they supporting keepers as well as humans enhance the story, they each have their own unique personalities, good and bad.
I love the idea for Collide it’s an alien love story with a unique twist. I think the author took the alien concept and put a spin on it that I could see happening in real life. I always wonder if there are other life forms in space, or lurking on earth this concept I could see happening. The characters are engaging you have characters you root for and cheer on plus the ones you can’t stand. The relationships that come from being forced into this situation are positive. Sherry’s brother finds love with another special girl which is super cute. I love that the story is filled with clean sweet romance; it’s not steamy stuff that make me blush. This is my first book that I've read by Shelly Crane but I already love her writing style, the story flows along smoothly, it’s filled with fast paced action, romance and aliens. Everything you need for a great story. Collide is a perfect start to an exciting new series that captures the imagination as well as the heart. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

My Cover Thoughts: I love the cover of the kite flying high. To me it represents something flying to get somewhere and once there it will have meaning.
My Thoughts/Review: I absolutely love this book! Sherry is stuck in a ho hum job working at the local tabloid paper. She has a brother who is lazy and works at the local coffee shop and to make matters even worse her parents are stuck in the Woodstock hippie era. What is a girl to do? She is also getting over a relationship that was an abusive one. The only light at the end of her tunnel is her getting a job at the prestigious newspaper taking pictures of better things than the local crazies with all their talk about aliens coming down and taking over the world.
Then one day Sherry is out at her favourite spot overlooking a cliff looking at the moon when all of the sudden the moon disappears. She gets spooked and decides to go home to check up on her brother and make sure he is safe. When she gets home she sees her ex-boyfriend Matt across the street staring at her and she is in panic mode because he just won’t take no for an answer. Only when he crosses the road she sees he looks different and his eye colour is different. She is scared but he keeps saying he has to talk to her and her brother but she fights him off when all of a sudden she feels a prick and is knocked out. When she comes to she finds herself in her car with her brother and Matt. Sherry is not sure what is going on but she is about to find out and once Matt has told her and her brother the story sherry is sure she has gone crazy because she can’t believe the stories of aliens coming down and taking over the world.
Sherry and Danny are thrown into a world where they have to rely on each other and take care of each other because they are all that is left of their family. Collide is one of those books that takes you on a wonderful journey. There is so much to this book that I don't know how to do it justice. Collide is a apocolyptic book that weaves a story that tests courage and family. Sherry has always felt there was something more and someone watching over her. When the Moon disappears from the night sky, strange things come to earth. People start to disappear only to return later acting differently. Danny, her little brother has had to move in and sleep on her couch since her hippie parents have packed up to stand with others to welcome the aliens to our planet. Sherry also has to dodge her abusive, egotistical ex-boyfriend Matt. Matt has been coming by drunk and pounding down her door until she is afraid to death of him.
Sherry's journey begins as a normal day when she is confronted by Matt on her way home in the parking lot of her apartment. Except Matt says he isn't Matt but a Keeper and she and Danny need to come with him right away if they want to live. Sherry thinks that not only is Matt abusive but he has gone crazy. So Matt drugs her with a special drug that keeps her aware but unable to move or communicate. Matt puts her in the car and then she hears him return with Danny. Matt drives them to an underground bunker where she wakes to him in room without Danny. Matt tells her that his name is really Merrick and he is a Keeper sent to watch over Danny because he is a Special and must be saved so that he can complete his a task for the good of the human race. Sherry believes him because his mannerisms and eye color have changed. None of Matt's swagger or cockiness are present in Merrick. Together they convince Danny of Merrick's change. Merrick also tells Sherry and Danny that Lighters have come to take over the earth and they are responsible for the disappearance of the moon. However, Lighters are using complusion through the news to blame Keepers as a means to track down Specials and kill them. If the Lighters manage to kill Specials, they will be able to take over the earth because society will no longer advance and they will be in control. They will use fear to rule.
A ragtag bunch of Specials and Keepers soon assembles in the underground bunker. Sherry notices that Merrick is very uncomfortable with her and misinterpets this as dislike. Sherry and Merrick are drawn to each other but Keepers are only supposed to be here for a short period of time and are more pure than humans. Merrick is sure that someone as good as Sherry couldn't love anyone like him who isn't even human. Sherry doesn't care that Merrick isn't human but enjoys the way he is always there for her and knows everything about her. Merrick and Sherry's love story is epic and draws the reader into the book. Love manages to win even at the end of the world.
I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys romance with dystopian or paranormal twists. The Action is really good as the group has to run from Lighters and Markers. Warning you will want to read the next book Uprising almost immediately. I believe Ms. Crane is an author to watch and feel so "special" to have discovered her talent so early in what will surely be a long career.

Shelly Crane has yet to disappoint me. I am in love with her books. While Merrick and Sherry are no Maggie and Caleb or Clara and Eli, I still loved reading about them. Their story grabbed your attention from the very beginning and it was difficult to stop reading. Shelly Crane has created some of the sweetest love stories I have ever read, Merrick and Sherry are an adorable couple worth sighing over. I dare you to not smile while reading this book.
One thing I really enjoyed about Collide, was that some of the book was written from Merrick’s point of view. Most of the time, the reader only gets to see the love story from one point of view. It was nice to see the relationship from both sides and see that both truly care about and love each other. I really like Merrick’s character. I thoroughly enjoy watching him learn to be human. It was funny when he would search for words that are so commonplace for us.
While I liked Sherry’s character, there were some things that really annoyed me. For one, she was very self depreciating. She was determined that Merrick hated her, and couldn’t begin to think that he might love her, despite what others kept telling her. It bothered me that her first thought was that others hate her, especially when she is so nice. In my opinion, she can be too nice. It is clear that she cannot hold a grudge and it truly bothers her when people don’t like her. This annoyed me, because I believe that you shouldn’t really care what others think of you, just be you. Sherry was a little bit too selfless, almost to a fault.
What I did enjoy, was Merrick and Sherry’s relationship (once Sherry stopped being stupid). They clearly have a strong relationship and I have no worries for a stupid love triangle. A love triangle in this book would have felt fake, and I love that this author doesn’t force them into the books for the sake of their current popularity.
I loved the whole idea behind this book. The idea of Keepers being assigned to watch out for Specials was great. Initially their presence was the watch out for the Specials and intervene quickly and quietly if necessary. Obviously events in this book have changed the Keeper-Special relationship, but the premise behind it is great. It is so true that sometimes something a stranger says or does can have an impact that changes your life, even if it is only something small. You never know who or what will influence you.
Any one with a heart with thoroughly enjoy this book. It truly is a great story and you will love every single second of it.

I am really confused right now.
I have no idea what I just read.
I had this on my Kindle for a long time now. It's free on Kindle, by the way. I also had Significance (another book by Shelly Crane) on my Kindle as well. However, I had already read that one back in the day, and I was happy enough with it. So, now a long time later, I scroll through my Kindle and find this book. I think, well it's by Shelly Crane, might as well read it.
And so I read it.
And I have no idea what I just read.
Literally, the two stars were because it was cute and I liked Sherry and Merrick.
Don't get me wrong, guys. I love cute stories. I love nice fluff. I love comfy, cozy, curl up into bed and enjoy a book with warm cocoa stories. I love them. And cute romances are amazing!!! And so believe me when I say that I was okay with the romance in this book. It's just that this book wasn't supposed to be romance.
There was no plot!!!
Literally, nothing happened.
Nothing happened.
Nothing was explained.
Nothing happened.
The world is most definitely not thought out. It's not a different world, but there is a separate place where the Keepers are from. And that place is not described at all in any part of the novel. The Lighters don't make sense. Neither do the Markers, Takers, Keepers, Specials. Just capitalizing a bunch of words doesn't make a story.
I actually kind of remember Significance now. At first, I thought it was cute because of the adorable romance. But now, thinking about, well whatever I can remember, it had the same problem. There Was NO Plot!!! See? You can't just capitalize everything.
The story was poorly written, not very well thought out, not at all a good story.
I do give it kudos for being adorable. And I loved Sherry and Merrick together.
That was about it.
I'm not going to tell you to read this book, but at the same time, I won't tell you to avoid it.

Life is going along like usual until one day the moon disappears. Once the moon disappears, other beings called Lighters and Keepers come to earth. Shelly's abusive ex-boyfriend re-enters her life and claims to be a Keeper named Merrick. He is her brother's guardian. Merrick has also watched Sherry her whole life and has fallen in love with her. Can Sherry believe everything that Merrick tells her? Will they be able to save the world AND find love?
My Take:
I became a fan of Shelly Crane's books starting with the Significance series. Shelly has a great ability to make her characters seem so normal and could easily be a friend or family member. So, when she asked if I was interested in reading the Collide series I said "Of course!" I'm not typically an dystopian/apocalypse fan, but I really enjoyed this book. What made it a good read for me was the character development and unique story line. Sherry is a little peanut of a girl, but she knows how to hold her own. Then there's Merrick.....he's such a sweetheart. I almost got a cavity because of his sweetness. He does have a strong protective streak though and shouldn't be messed with. I also enjoyed the supporting characters. Sherry's brother Danny, Jeff, and Celeste are characters I look forward to seeing more of in the next book. The second book in the series is called Uprising and the third was released recently called Catalyst.

When I read this book I wasn't really into it, but now I feel like I shouldn't have kept putting it of. It's amazing and one of my favorite books.
Sherry is an awesome character. She's a little different from Maggie (from Significance). Maggie was quiet but not afraid to stand up for herself, neither is Sherry, but Sherry, to me, seemed to come off more serious then Maggie. Sherry kind of a take charge kind of person, but since she's so small and frail looking people tend to find her very nonthreatening, like she's the one who needs protection the most. Even Merrick acts this way sometimes. But that probably isn't that far-fetch because they pointed out later in the series that Sherry couldn't hurt them even if she wanted to. But a female character doesn't need to be physically strong to be an awesome character.
Merrick is beyond amazing! I love him and Sherry! He is so sweet, and caring, and he kicks butt.
Another character I really love is Jeff. I love his and Sherry's friendship, and Jeff and Merrick's bromance is one of my favorite things ever. And Jeff and Marissa. Nothing really happens between them in this book, I just like their relationship. At Jeff seems to hate her for what she did to Sherry, but then you see little scenes of them sitting together, laughing and smiling. I think Sherry totally ships it.
I like Danny a little. He and Celeste are cute together.
I also really like Ryan and Calvin. Ryan is such a sweet guy who you can't help but love, and Calvin is so cute.
This book was really good. If you're a fan of Shelly Crane I definitely recommend it.
Sherry is an awesome character. She's a little different from Maggie (from Significance). Maggie was quiet but not afraid to stand up for herself, neither is Sherry, but Sherry, to me, seemed to come off more serious then Maggie. Sherry kind of a take charge kind of person, but since she's so small and frail looking people tend to find her very nonthreatening, like she's the one who needs protection the most. Even Merrick acts this way sometimes. But that probably isn't that far-fetch because they pointed out later in the series that Sherry couldn't hurt them even if she wanted to. But a female character doesn't need to be physically strong to be an awesome character.
Merrick is beyond amazing! I love him and Sherry! He is so sweet, and caring, and he kicks butt.

This has got to be my lowest rating yet. I wanted to like Collide and enjoy it and talk about since it was a buddy read, but hell, I was so disappointed instead.
And why, you ask?
Well, let me tell you.
Sherry is an 18 year old girl who has just finished college? -yeah right- and has some kind of strange, bat shit crazy parents who don't care about her or her brother Danny who is a nice fellow, though a little bit lost in the entire situation.
She has a nut job ex boyfriend whose habit is stalking people, or should I say her. And her boss is kind of crazy, too.
But then one day the moon disappears and Earth is invaded by aliens. By that point it was still vaguely interesting, but when the main male character-the Keeper Merrick shows up in the body of her ex Matt, it's like someone literally drags all the focus on their not-so-interesting love story.
Instead of actually telling what the hell is happening to Earth, the points of view just change from mister good hot blue-eyed alien/angel/keeper/lighter Merrick who says: You special. Must get to safety. LOVE YOU LONG TIME.
and Sherry, who is a very boring main character and just smells of a damsel in distress.
Basically, the entire time I was like : HELLO, THERE IS AN ALIEN INVASION GOING ON. WHAT ABOUT THAT?
The only answers we get are almost at the end of the book, so I heartily recommend everyone who decides to read this book to simply skip the 200 pages in between. You will miss nothing.
And to even think there is a sequel ?
