From her punk-style teenage years on MTV’s The Osbournes to her now-completed run on E!’s Fashion Police, audiences have watched the reality star-turned-TV host embrace multiple hair hues (black, red, pink, blonde, grey, violet), act and produce, sing, co-host a comedic fashion talk show and embrace being Kelly Osbourne.
The daughter of Black Sabbath lead singer Ozzy Osbourne and The Talk co-host Sharon, Kelly and her two siblings (sister Aimee and brother Jack) were exposed to the spotlight since adolescence. But the world didn’t see into the home life of the British family until their reality show hit the cable airwaves in 2002, which served as a launching pad for Kelly’s individual career.
The Osbournes (2002-2005) and Osbournes Reloaded (2009)
Viewers watched spunky Osbourne live out formative late teen and young adult years while living at home with her family, both dating and her body image frequent topics addressed on the show. All of the family members aside from Aimee, who opted out of being taped, went unfiltered on the realty series, and gave audiences a look at the home life of a rock star family. Both Kelly and Jack didn’t restrain from giving the cameras cheekiness, attitude or authentic opinions. “Kelly’s really not one for making good decisions for herself,” Jack said on an episode of the show. “She does, like, the stupidest things.”
Acting and Singing (2002-2015)
Following the family’s four season-long reality series, Osbourne went on to perform in multiple TV and film projects, appearing as herself on multiple shows and performing on Project Catwalk (2006-2008) Dancing With the Stars (2010), Life As We Know It (2004-2005), Are We There Yet? (2012), So Undercover (2012), Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014) and The 7D (2014-2015), including many more. In 2002, Osbourne released her first album “Shut Up” that was re-released in 2003 as “Changes,” followed by second album “Sleeping in the Nothing” in 2005. From 2011-2015, Osbourne partnered with the Fashion Police team and fellow E! hosts to report on annual awards shows’ red carpets, interviewing celebrities and ceremony-goers about their evening fashion picks on E! Live From the Red Carpet.
Fashion Police (2010-2015)
Osbourne’s time on her family’s unfiltered reality show was a prequel to E!’s Fashion Police, whose original cast included the late Joan Rivers, Giuliana Rancic, George Kotsiopoulos and Osbourne. Rivers was widely loved and recognized for the uncensored comments she made about celebrities’ oh-no-they-didn’t red carpet outfits, but after her death in Sept. 2014, E! restructured the cast, adding comedian Kathy Griffin and Brad Goreski to the co-host lineup. On the 2015 Fashion Police post-Oscars special, Rancic made comments about Zendaya Coleman‘s dreadlocks: “I feel like she smells like patchouli oil and weed.” Coleman took to Instagram to express her feelings about the comments, which resulted in Osbourne’s departure from the show four days later. On Feb. 24, Osbourne told Twitter followers that she was contemplating leaving the show: “I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT. I DO NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RSULT OF THIS IM SEREIOULSY QUESTIONONIG STAYING ON THE SHOW!” Despite a public apology from Rancic on E! News, the network released a statement on Feb. 27 saying that their violet-haired co-host would be pursuing “other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years, during which time the show became a hit with viewers.”
