WATCH: Goldfrapp Have Just Released A Stunning New Music Video and It’s a Lesbian Take on ‘Stranger by the Lake’
The music videos for Goldlfrapp’s latest album “Tales of Us” have so far been a collection of intriguing, beautiful things. Each one directed by Lisa Gunning, they now make up a 30 minute film which explores themes of gender identity and sexuality in exquisite, dream-like black and white.
As Slant pointed out, this latest one, entitled “Stranger”, looks at the idea of the queer predator. This was of course a concept most recently explored in Alaine Guiradie’s hit film “Stranger by the Lake” (If you’re a fan of that film we ran an exclusive deleted scene here). In Goldfrapp and Gunning’s version of this trope a mysterious queer character reflects on cruising then murdering a woman by the beach moments after a tryst. As the final shot shows, she wasn’t the first. It’s a tense and evocative video, and, much like “Stranger By The Lake”, beautifully shot.
Alison Goldfrapp, whose name is given to the band she sings for, and Gunning have been partners since 2007 and its great to see an out bisexual woman exploring queer themes in their work.
