MANU NATIONAL PARK

An Amazonian paradise

The Park was created on May 29, 1973, has an area of ​​1,716,295.22 hectares and is one of the best destinations for nature tourism. In the lower basin of the Manu River, the exuberance of the Amazon plain stands out. There are up to five recommended areas for tourist visits, with a high diversity of flora and fauna: Salvador, Otorongo, Juárez, Pakitza and Limonal. All navigable circuits in the lakes or oxbow lakes, where you can see the river wolves and the black lizard.

The Manu National Park, a World Heritage Site, is one of the areas with the greatest biodiversity on the planet. It is located in the departments of Cusco (province of Paucartambo, district of Kosñipata) and Madre de Dios (province of Manu, districts of Fitzcarrald and Manu), covering the whole of the Manu River basin.

Located in the south of Peru, in the eastern sector of the Andes mountain range and western edge of the Amazon basin, it is the only park in Latin America that includes the entire range of environments from tropical lowland to frigid punas, above 4,000 msnm.

Flora

More than 20,000 species. 40% of the park is tropical rainforest of the Amazon, including varzea, oxbow lakes, aguajales, and highland forest types.

Fauna

The Manu Biosphere Reserve has a very rich fauna. The largest species of lowland forests include the jaguar, the puma, the ocelot, the river wolf, the giant anteater, the southern tamandua, the giant armadillo, the nine-banded armadillo, the brown-throated sloth, the lazy two fingers of Hoffmann, the Brazilian tapir, capybara, pacarana, lowland paca, species of peccary collar, white-lipped peccary and several deer, such as South American red deer, matacán and South American brown. The swamp deer, actually more of a savanna animal, has also been confirmed. There are 14 species of monkeys. These are Goeldi marmoset, little lion, capuchin head shock (cuscinus Cebus albifrons), tamarin (Peruanus Cebus apella), brown mantle, emperor marmoset, mustachioed marmoset, black capped squirrel monkey, black night monkey with head, brown titi, Rio Tapajós saki, red Bolivian howler, spider monkey from Peru, and gray woolly monkey. Confined in mountainous areas above 2000 m. They are the Peruvian white-tailed deer, dwarf brocket, culpeo, mountain paca and the spectacled bear. The puma also reaches very high elevations up to 3450 m.
