A second member of hit group UB40 has quit, plunging the band's future into chaos.

Keyboard player Michael Virtue walked out just weeks after singer Ali Campbell, claiming there were problems with the way bosses handled their finances.

He said: "I can no longer work with the management team. I am joining Ali in his investigation into the handling of the band's business affairs.

"I am upset to be leaving but feel this was the only option left open." Virtue and Campbell, 49, have been with UB40 since they formed in Birmingham 30 years ago.

His walkout leaves six members. A source said: "This makes the group's future fragile. It wouldn't be a surprise if others left soon."

UB40's latest album, 27/7, out in May, will be the last with Ali.
