Fashion designer and former child actress Mary-Kate Olsen, who is famously reticent about her private life and, like her business partner and twin sister Ashley, refrains from social media, has spoken publicly for the first time about her marriage and family.

Describing both siblings’ work ethic, Mary-Kate Olsen, 30, told Net-a-Porter.com’s online fashion magazine The Edit, “I think we’re lucky [that working hard] comes quite naturally for us. We don’t need so much time to sit and think and ponder. But then I have a husband, two stepkids and a life; I have to go home and cook dinner. I ride horses on the weekends. You find the thing that helps you relax and if you don’t have it, you have to look for it. Or you get burned out and then you’re not productive.”

Olsen married New York City-based French financier Olivier Sarkozy, 47, half-brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, in a small wedding on Nov. 27, 2015. Olivier Sarkozy has two children, Julien and Margot, from his 14-year marriage to children’s book author and fashion writer Charlotte Bernard, from whom he was separated in 2010 and divorced the following year.

Sarkozy and Olsen have been a couple since May 2012. While reports circulated in March 2014 that the two had become engaged, following publication of photos of Olsen wearing an apparent engagement ring, the couple never confirmed this publicly.

Olsen is an equestrian and a Hamptons habitue who has competed in the Hampton Classic Horse Show, in Bridgehampton. Sarkozy was a managing director and head of global financial services for The Carlyle Group before resigning in May.
