All Saints rep denies Nicole Appleton wished ex-husband Liam Gallagher ‘Happy Birthday’ on wrong day

Comments at V Festival were allegedly made by sister Natalie instead

A press representative for All Saints has denied reports that singer Nicole Appleton referred to ex Liam Gallagher as her “husband” while wishing him “Happy Birthday” one month early at V Festival over the weekend.

Appleton and Gallagher were married from 2008 to 2014, having dated since 2000. They have one child together.

Yahoo recently reported that Appleton made reference to Gallagher during All Saints’ set at V Festival on Sunday (August 21). She was quoted as telling the crowd: “I’d like to take this chance to wish my husband Liam happy birthday”, before allegedly adding: “I love you very much”. The comments seemed confusing as Gallagher’s birthday is in fact September 21.

However, All Saints’ PR has now clarified to NME that it was actually Appleton’s sister and bandmate, Natalie, who made the comments and was referring to her husband Liam Howlett of The Prodigy, whose birthday was indeed on August 21.

All Saints released their first album in a decade, ‘Red Flag’, during April. It included single ‘One Strike’, a break-up song about Gallagher.

Speaking about ‘One Strike’ at the time, singer Shaznay Lewis revealed that Appleton’s split was “on my mind” when she wrote the song.

“The lyrics came from somewhere very real. Nic was going through a lot of things at that time. That was at the forefront of my mind because it was the heaviest thing going on,” she said.

“We spoke for hours and hours on the phone,” Nicole added. “The first few times I heard it in my car I couldn’t stop crying because I could hear so clearly what it was about,” said Appleton.
