Visit the Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge, an icon of San Francisco, draws in people from all over the world as one of the most visited sites in the city. The “bridge that could never be built,” stands as an unwavering symbol of the San Francisco Bay area.
Opened in 1937, the bridge was built as a single-suspension bridge that is anchored by two twin towers that reach upward some 700 feet. Spanning 1.7 miles long, it connects the communities of San Francisco and Marin counties.
Today, visitors can explore this famous structure by walking or biking across the bridge using the pedestrian sidewalk. There are parking lots on both the north and south sides of the bridge. Take your adventure a bit further and continue under the bridge to Hendrik Point for unforgettable views of the bridge and San Francisco.
