Hellboy is officially getting a reboot, Stranger Things actor to star

With a few notable changes

Hellboy

After years of “will they, won’t they?” occurring between Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, director Guillermo del Toro and various studios, the future of the red-faced demon is looking pretty good.

Mignola announced on Facebook last night that the franchise was getting a reboot. Stranger Things’ David Harbour, best known for playing Chief Jim Hopper, will star as the titular hero. The position was previously held by Ron Perlman, who played Hellboy in both the first film and its sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Mignola also confirmed that del Toro wouldn’t be returning to direct the new movie. Instead, Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) would be stepping into the director’s spot.

Although there’s no estimated release window for the movie at this time, it does have a working title: Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen. Mignola is on board to write the film alongside two others.

The news of the reboot comes just a couple of months after del Toro announced on Twitter that the third Hellboy movie he was trying to secure funding for was officially dead.

Both he and Mignola at the time confirmed that while del Toro would be walking away from the franchise, Hellboy would continue to live on in some way.

Millennium Pictures is currently in negotiations to produce Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen. Mignola said more information will become available soon but until then fans can rest easy that Hellboy will return in some shape or form to the big screen.
