With six children hailing from different countries and ethnicities, Angelina Jolie’s family is a melting pot of ideas and outlooks – and more than likely, the breeding ground for several future stars. Read on to find out more about the most untypical mother’s illustrious offspring.

1. Shiloh/John Nouvel Jolie-Pitt

Originally named Shiloh, John is the biological child of Angelina and ex-husband Brad Pitt. Born in 2006, the famed firstborn is today an icon of the LGBTQ+ community. Assigned female at birth, John identifies as male, and since the age of two has expressed the desire to be addressed by his chosen male name. Angelina and Brad have always been supportive of his choices, and the 13-year-old is often seen sporting suits and short haircuts. He is already showing interest in the world of entertainment, with a small voice role in 2016’s Kung Fu Panda 3, a movie that his mother also performed in.

2. Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt

Maddox is the oldest of Angelina’s children; she adopted him from an orphanage in Cambodia in 2002. He was originally named Rath Vibol. Maddox is now 18 and studies biochemistry at Yonsei University in South Korea. The situation between Maddox and his father is a tense one; the two allegedly got into a fight on a private plane in 2016, and this was reportedly the incident that led Angelina to file for divorce. Brad and Maddox are now estranged, and when asked whether they would be reconciling, Maddox has said, “Whatever happens, happens”. He, too, has an interest in the film industry, with a credit as an executive producer on First They Killed My Father, a historical film about the Cambodian Khmer Rouge regime directed by his mother.

3. Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt

In 2006, Angelina adopted the six-month-old girl, then named Yemsrach, from Ethiopia. She is now 14 and has already had a voice role in Kung Fu Panda 3. She also designed her own jewellery for the red carpet premiere of her mother’s film Maleficent. The emerald-cut jewels are part of the new Zahara Collection, which just launched this month. Like her mother, she’s charitably minded: All proceeds go to the House of Ruth shelters, which provide housing for battered women and children.

In 2007, Angelina added yet another to her brood, adopting Pax from Vietnam. His biological mother abandoned him at the Tam Binh Orphanage, and he spent three years there before the famous couple met him and fell in love. His birth name was Pham Quang Sang, but Angelina named him Pax Thien, which means “calm skies”. He just turned 16, on November 30, and is currently learning Vietnamese – which he used to speak before he was adopted. He has taken his brother’s side in the conflict against Brad; both he and Maddox refused to go to Brad’s house during Christmas last year.

5. Knox Léon Jolie-Pitt

Knox was born in July 2008 and is older than his twin Vivienne by one minute. His name is a mix of his parents’ families: Knox is a nod to Brad’s maternal grandfather, Hal Knox Hillhouse, and the middle name Leon is the name of Jolie’s great-grandfather. Now 11, the youngster is the spitting image of his dad, and he is being home-schooled alongside his sister.

6. Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt

Vivienne’s middle name is taken from that of Angelina’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died a year before she and Knox were born. In 2014’s Maleficent, Vivienne had a role as the younger version of Aurora. Like her older sibling John, she has shown a preference for gender-neutral clothing and has been spotted wearing suits to premieres.

Angelina’s six children are a true blend of diversity – and clearly possess vivid and unique personalities. This budding brood is definitely one to keep your eye on.
