Viewers and contestants of Netflix’s The Circle got an unexpected, spicy surprise recently when Scary Spice Mel B and Baby Spice Emma Bunton gatecrashed the reality show as secret celebs. And what a nostalgic surprise, indeed. With Scary kitted out in her signature leopard print and Baby donning her usual pink, it was the ultimate trip down memory lane.

The Spice Girls reunited for a sell-out reunion tour in 2019, but when the pandemic hit, things went quiet again while further international tour plans got put on hold.

Besides The Circle, what have the Spice Girls been up to in 2022?

During the pandemic, fans started showing concern for Scary Spice, 46, who seemed to retract herself from the spotlight. After living Stateside for many years and starring on reality talent shows like America’s Got Talent, she was suddenly nowhere to be seen, and ended up returning to her family home in her native Leeds – a small city in northern England.

Fortunately, she’s made a comeback in the past few months. Not only did she join Netflix’s The Circle, but she also showed up at Buckingham Palace last week where she was awarded an MBE for her efforts to raise awareness on domestic abuse for Women’s Aid. After attending Brooklyn Beckham’s wedding in Florida in April, Victoria decided to dress her bandmate for the occasion, and even surprised her by showing up for the fitting and post celebrations. Aw!

Mel’s daughter, Phoenix Chi Gulzar, also joined the reality TV circuit by starring in ITV’s The Games. Of course, her proud mother was there to cheer her on, too.

Emma Bunton

She may be 46 now, but judging by her youthful looks on The Circle, Bunton is certainly still the Baby of the band.

Bunton has been enjoying married life this year after tying the knot with her long-time partner Jade Jones in 2021. As a mum of two, she released her first book, Mama, You Got This and presents Heart radio show Feel Good Weekend with Emma Bunton in the UK. She’s also the co-founder of Kit & Kin – a range of eco-friendly baby products.

In March, she also showed her support for Ukraine by presenting the live Concert for Ukraine broadcast.

Victoria Beckham

Out of all of the Spice Girls, the artist formerly known as Posh is by far the most high profile thanks to her successful fashion career.

In recent years, Victoria, 48, hung up her mic to focus on her career as a designer, and has even expanded her business into Victoria Beckham Beauty. She also released a collaboration with Reebok.

This year, Victoria has been all about family, with her eldest son Brooklyn marrying Nicola Peltz in April. Of course, she invited her Spice Girls bandmates to the big day, although only Melanie C and Mel B were able to attend.

Melanie C

Sporty was always said to have the best voice of the band, so it’s no surprise 48-year-old Melanie C is still actively recording and performing music.

After dropping her last album during the early stages of the pandemic, Melanie finally took to the stage in February for a sell-out tour.

This year, she wowed audiences when she joined the American line-up of Dancing with the Stars. Sporty also thrilled her LGBTQ+ fans when she appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs the World in February. She became the fourth Spice Girl to do so, with only Victoria yet to make an appearance.

Melanie will release her autobiography, Who I Am, in September.

Geri Horner

Ginger Spice was always the loudest and most colourful member of the band, stealing the show in her Union Jack dress and pinching Prince Charles’ bum. But those crazy days of Miss Halliwell are long gone.

Now known as Geri Horner, the 49 year old completely revamped her image after marrying Formula One’s Red Bull boss, Christian Horner, and only wears white in public. Literally, no other colour (nobody knows why, and she won’t say why).

These days, Geri is a mother of two who loves to bake, and looks after animals on her farm in the English countryside. When she does venture out, it’s usually for the Formula One races around the world alongside her hubby, where she has become a constant figure. She can also be seen on Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive.

This month, she was seen bonding with Posh’s hubby, David Beckham, at the Formula One in Miami. While Geri’s a far cry from her old Ginger Spice alter ego, she still keeps her Spice family close.
