Though Ferreira’s bright smile might make you think otherwise, the model has suffered her fair share of trials and tribulations. At the age of just eight months, she had to undergo surgery for congenital torticollis, a condition where she had a misaligned neck. Then, at age 10, she was diagnosed with Susac syndrome, a rare disorder that meant she lost her vision, hearing and mobility on the left side of her body for 18 months. “I was supposed to die. Literally to die, and now I’m here and it shows my strength, and it taught me to never stop dreaming,” she said in her video for Miss Universe.

In 2018, at the Asunción Fashion Week, the model unintentionally revealed more than planned when her dress slipped off her shoulder. According to the website Crónica, she said she made the decision to continue strutting regardless, saying: “I realised right away what happened, but it’s unprofessional to dress yourself on the catwalk.” Ferreira pointed out that even the world’s top supermodels such as Naomi Campbell have suffered similar wardrobe malfunctions.

Another unfortunate incident occurred in 2021 when she tripped due to the high heels she was wearing. According to the website Palorubin, because it was the year when she was to represent her country at the Miss Universe pageant, fans were worried she may have been too badly injured to compete, but Ferreira reassured them with a message on her social media saying: “There are only bruises.”
