There’s no doubt that Zahara Marley Jolie is close to her mum, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie – they’ve been pictured everywhere together.

But it seems like the 18-year-old has had a rocky relationship with her dad, Brad Pitt, in recent years. This might’ve just been confirmed as Zahara introduced herself as a new member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, without using her dad’s last name.

As seen in a video shared by Essence on Wednesday, Zahara may have dropped her famous father’s surname.

“My name is Zahara Marley Jolie,” she says in the clip, “Coming all the way from the Golden State in the city that is full of angels, Los Angeles, California. … I am this line’s number seven.”

Zahara joins her sorority sisters as part of the latest class of the Mu Pi chapter at Atlanta’s Spelman College, per Us Weekly. She enrolled at the university back in 2022, and has had plenty of support from her mum, who helped her move into her dorm last August, according to the magazine.

Zahara Marley Jolie was born in January 2005, in Hawassa, Ethiopia. She was adopted by Jolie when she was just seven months old, per People. Pitt later joined for the official adoption process.

Jolie and Pitt share six children from their relationship. Zahara seems close to all her siblings, and has been pictured with Shiloh Jolie Pitt on numerous occasions in recent months.

She has three brothers: Maddox, 22, Pax, 19, and Knox, 15, and two sisters, Shiloh, 17, and Vivienne, 15. Knox and Vivienne are twins.

She met Ethiopia’s first female president, Sahle-Work Zewde

Zahara may be interested in politics – just like her mum. In 2019, Angelina took her daughters Zahara and Shiloh to meet the first female president of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde. According to People, their discussion revolved around topics like education and sanitary pad solutions for girls in the region.

Both of Zahara’s parents are in acting, so it’s not too surprising that she’s done the occasional cameo!

As previously reported, she did the voice acting for Meng Meng, the panda triplet in Kung Fu Panda: 3. She also had an uncredited role, alongside her brother Pax, in Disney’s Maleficent.

She launched a fine jewellery collection

In October 2019, news surfaced that Zahara had launched The Zahara Collection, which was available at Saks Fifth Avenue locations. She wore some of the pieces from the collection in collaboration with jeweller Robert Procop on red carpets, according to Buzzfeed.

A philanthropist at heart, just like her mum, Zahara donated all of the proceeds to the Los Angeles-based House of Ruth Shelters, which “provides transitional housing for battered women and children”, according to a press release.

Since her parents’ split in 2016, things have been tense in the Jolie-Pitt household amid a lengthy divorce battle between the two former lovers.

According to British media, the relationship came to an “explosive end” in 2016, after Jolie and Pitt allegedly got into a physical altercation while on a private flight with their children. Jolie reportedly claimed that Pitt had “choked” one of the kids, amid various other allegations.

It’s unclear where Pitt stands now when it comes to his relationships with his kids, but he did make it clear that he’s proud of his daughter, Zahara.

“I’m so proud of her,” he told Vanity Fair last August, “She’s so smart. She’s going to flourish even more at college. It’s an exciting and beautiful time to find her own way and pursue her interests. I’m so proud.”

Pitt, 59, is now dating US actor and director Paul Wesley’s ex-wife Ines de Ramon.
