It's no secret that Camila Cabello's new album Romance is basically a diary about her love life over the past few years and since Shawn Mendes has been a fixture in it for quite some time now, we can only expect that a ton of songs on the album are about him. But it's really up to the fans to figure out which ones, since Camila's been pretty tight-lipped about what lyrics are connected to her boyfriend. There is one song that fans don't have to guess about though. During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple's New Music Daily, Camila confirmed what fans were already thinking, that the bop "Liar" is totally about Shawn.
She also hinted at which other song on the album might be about Shawn: "First Man." The song is really about her father's emotions at witnessing his daughter enter her first serious relationship. "This song is basically about when I was in my first serious relationship, I had never brought a boy home before. My dad hadn’t seen me dating or whatever. He was just like very sensitive about it."
Camila said that her dad felt like his little girl was growing up and added that the song will always hold a deeper meaning for her. "And I think that’s the first time that he really felt that. And so he felt really protective over me and I just think that is the sweetest thing. I think the song is going to be like wine to me. Like I think when I’m like 90 years old and if someday I’m just listening back to my songs, I think it’s just going to get more and more important to me as time goes on."
Camila and Shawn have gotten pretty serious in just a few months, but both have admitted that their feelings for each other had been brewing for a couple of months. So their relationship could be the one that Camila's referring to in the lyrics to "First Man."
The song has been giving fans all the feels.
In just a few months, Camila will be hitting the stage for the Romance Tour and who knows? Maybe, we'll spot Shawn at at a few of her shows.
