Biography

  • Alejandro Fernandez, nicknamed El Portrillo by his fans, is a Mexican Bolero/ Latin pop and Mariachi musician from Guadalajara, Jalisco.

Born as Alejandro Fernandez Abarca on 24 April 1971 as the son of Ranchera singer Vicente Fernandez. His first public appearance was with his father at the very early age of five and despite it ending in a panic attack, he released his debut album “Alejandro Fernandez at the age of 21. He then set out on tour around Mexico as well as a few cities in the United States, and in 1994 he released his second album entitled “Grandes Exitos A La Manera De Alejandro Fernandez.”

In 1996 he released his third studio album, “Muy Dentro de Mi Corazon,” which became an instant success. The album was a fusion of bolero, romantic ballad, a touch of mariachi and orchestral arrangements. After the release of two more successful albums, he played the lead role in the film “Zapata: El Sueno Del Heroe” in 2004. From 2007 to 2013 he recorded and released three more studio albums, all of which reached success; the second of which, was released as a special simultaneous release entitled “Dos Mundos Evolucion” and “Dos Mundos Tradicion.” In conjunction with these two albums, he released “Dos Mundos Revolucion” which was a live performance recording of the songs.

Live reviews

  • Alejandro Fernando is electrifying during his entire performance. His nickname is "El Potrillo" also known as "The Colt," thanks to the media and all of his fans.

He typically sings Mexican folk, but has previously dabbled into pop music. His fans would all agree that he has done a superb job in doing so. With a huge stage that includes dancers, fantastic lighting and stairs, Alejandro is able to move about the stage and captivate the entire arena. With his rich and passionate voice, anyone is sure to love all that Alejandro has to offer. Alejandro takes center stage as his band is spread out in the background. Once the beat picks up, the lights flash and dance to the beat of the music and Alejandro dances in order to entertain the audience.

In 2011, he released the song "Bajo un mismo sol" which ended up being the theme for the 2011 Pan American Games. He was also able to tour Latin America along with Marc Anthony. Their concert tour name was Dos Mundos, un Concierto, or Two Worlds, One Concert. His beautiful Mexican voice is perfect for any night out. His fabulous concert is amazing and something that anyone is sure to enjoy.

  • Alejandro Fernández Abarca is the well trained Mexican singer who has sold nearly 30 million albums worldwide, most prominently in latino countries including Mexico, South America and Spain. The charismatic entertainer has been touring for decades and has taken his earthy sounds around the world numerous times to his devoted fanbase.

With a folk sound at the root of his music, the live setup relies heavily on a huge variety of musicians all adding different tones of percussion to the overall mariachi feeling of the gig. This music is almost impossible not to dance to and as the brass of 'Hoy tengo ganas de ti' kicks in you can see the whole venue begin to move as one. Alejandro is a wonderfully smooth frontman who singlehandedly and simultaneously woos the audience with his wit and humour. By quickly building great rapport, the whole evening has brilliant pace and runs as one smooth operation. It is a huge latino party for the finale of 'Matalas' where the brass, drums, percussion and of course vocalist all come together for a fitting send off.

  • I adore Alejandro Fernandez! so when I saw that Los Tigres del Norte, were also coming, I went ahead and bought the tickets,I thought they would sing a few songs, then Alejandro.

I was wrong! The show was mostly them singing.Nothing against them singing, but I would not pay that amount of money to see them. It really ruined the concert for me.

I will never buy another ticket if he or another one of my favorites singers have someone else...they should have their own concert.

by the way, the people were constantly getting up to dance, go and buy beer , bathroom and to buy more beer....the whole show.We had isle seats , so could not see anything. It was really a horrible experience. And we waited so long to see Alejandro.

  • Wow such an amazing performer!! We were captivated by his songs and performance. His voice is beautiful and passionate. I am sure his father, Vicente Fernández, is very proud. I took my mom for her birthday and she told me over and over this was the best concert she has been to in a long time. I agree too! Alejandro’s tribute to his father by singing his fathers songs was touching as it was admirable. We will definitely see him in concert again.
