  • Mick Jagger

I saw the The Rolling Stones in concert for the first and only time on july of 2013.

"50 & Counting" was a concert tour by The Rolling Stones to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band, which started in October 2012 (with two secret club gigs in Paris) and ended in July 2013 (with two major shows at Hyde Park)." They had been my favorite band for as long as I can remember. I've adored them from afar, wishing that I had been born way before 1993 so I could've attended their concerts more than once. I live in Brazil but I saw them in London, on Hyde Park more precisely. I had the trip planned before I even knew they would be playing for their 50 and counting (Grrr) World Tour. It was during a festival called British Summertime. I went there by myself, wearing my favorite Stones shirt and barely holding my breath.

The Stones concert started around 8 pm. The crowd was massive! People, like me, from all around the world waiting anxiously for them to appear on the huge stage, elaborately settled at the heart of Hyde Park. No need to say I got there really early, not wanting to miss a single minute and in hopes of getting a privileged spot. Eventually I found a great place and set camp. I met a group of people that happened to be at least 40 years older than myself and we hung out till the very end of the event, them talking about the previous Stones concerts that had been to and I listening fascinated. You could actually sense the general excitement circling around the festival. There were people from all kinds of styles, ages and places, with one thing in common. They all wanted to watch their idols once more, celebrating their 50 years as a band.

Once the concert started I was in awe. Charlie Watts was the first to step in. The crowd responded immediately. Shouts and claps were all you could hear. Keith followed, then Ron, then Mick himself. You would've though that after 50 years on the road they would've been too old for entertaining like the once had. Well, you would also be terribly mistaken. Mick Jagger has the energy of a 20 year old guy, I am not exaggerating. The man jumped up and down, ran along the "runway", sang his lungs out and managed to be charismatic to the public for two hours. They sang their most famous hits, going through Satisfaction, Sympathy for the Devil, You can't always get what you want, Ruby tuesday and their most recent track (and a personal favorite) Doom and Gloom.

The whole experience was amazing, possibly one of the best days of my 20 years of existence. I cried like a baby when I first saw them on stage and when I looked around me, I wasn't alone. There was a huge screen on the stage in which you could see them more closely and some wicked special effects. It was not only a rock n roll concert... It was pure art.

If you're going to see the Rolling stones on Concert, expect to be blown away. Specially if you're an obsessed fan like myself, then you're in for a treat. Despite the fact that they are all over 60, be prepared to see the proof that age is just a number and youth is a choice.
