Journalist says Spurs may have to wait until next summer to sign Eredivisie star

Journalist Dean Jones has said that Tottenham Hotspur will find it ‘difficult’ to convince Ajax to part ways with midfielder Kenneth Taylor in January.

Taylor is making waves in Dutch football, with the midfielder going from strength to strength since establishing himself as a regular in Ajax’s starting eleven at the start of last season.

The 21-year-old has been capped four times by the Netherlands and it appears only a matter of time before he makes the jump to a bigger league.

TEAMtalk reported two weeks ago that Taylor’s performances had caught the attention of several Premier League sides ahead of January, with Spurs, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brighton alleged to be watching the youngster closely.

January move to Spurs unlikely for Kenneth Taylor

Jones has now confirmed that Tottenham are one of several clubs that have scouted Taylor this season but the journalist expressed scepticism over whether a January move is on the cards.

He suggested that Ajax would not want to lose their academy graduate mid-season, given his importance to their side.

When asked about Spurs’ pursuit of Taylor, Jones told GiveMeSport: “Tottenham do need a midfielder, but this one might be difficult. If you looked at Ajax in the first part of the season, you’d think people would be ready to jump ship and just get out of there and do whatever they can.

“However, Ajax have turned a corner in the last few weeks, and they’ve got a new manager who has started to change things there. Taylor’s ever-present in that Ajax side, and he will be essential as to how the season ends up panning out.

“The message I’ve got is that Ajax do not want him leaving in the January transfer window, and it’ll have to wait until the summer.

“Honestly, I don’t think a player of that level will drastically change what Tottenham would be capable of across this season. So, let’s wait and see. Other teams are scouting him now, so it might run until the summer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt in my mind that Tottenham will enter the market for a midfielder next month as Postecoglou would not want to rely solely on a partnership of Skipp and Hojbjerg when Sarr and Bissouma travel to AFCON. Taylor is a good fit for the profile Spurs are after and is unlikely to cost a fortune.
