Blake, 41, spoke openly to hosts Susanna Reid, 52, and Ben Shephard, 48, addressing Amy's tragic passing from alcohol poisoning, aged 27, in 2011.

The pair had met in Camden, London, in 2005 and married two years later.

Just months later they were pictured together after a furious bust-up - with Amy wearing smeared eye make-up and bloodied ballet pumps and Blake with scratches on his neck.

It later emerged that the pair had been taking heroin.

On Amy's birthday anniversary today Blake told the ITV daytime show: "I think about her [Amy] a lot.

"I thought about her this morning, and I said happy birthday to her.

"I will always, always miss her. She was my best friend."

Blake then openly addressed suggestions he was to blame for Amy's passing, stating: "I have needed to stop carrying that cross.

"I have carried it for over 10 years."

Susanna suggested it was reported Amy tried heroin because she saw Blake doing it.

He admitted "full accountability" for introducing her to the drug and said: "Yes, that's right.

"I tried that particular drug a handful of times and I hadn't gone down any bad roads with it.

"I know that's a bizarre thing to say. It hadn't taken us to the depths it did.

"It was still very much - not glamorous - I'm not trying to pretend it was, it was just a drug."

He then told he would have done "almost everything" differently if he was granted his time with Amy again.

Blake told how he was on a mission to be "kinder to myself" but told how he had not reached out to Amy's family on today's anniversary, as he did not feel it would be welcomed.

Former public school pupil Blake was jailed for his part in a bar assault on a pub landlord in 2008 - leading to Amy’s famous Grammy Awards tribute to: “My Blake, incarcerated.”

Blake filed for divorce from Amy shortly after his release, and their split was finalised in 2019.

Until recently he had not been seen in public since a TV appearance in 2018, which saw him slam former wife Amy’s family for putting on gigs with her performing as a hologram.

He went on to claim that accusations he had cashed in on her memory himself were “misleading” and added that he wasn’t “the only one” to blame for her tragic death of an alcohol overdose.

Before Amy's death she was one of the biggest names in music known for her unique voice and powerful lyrics.
