As soon as the news broke Tuesday that Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, rumors began to fly fast and loose. Was this 2005 all over again? Was Pitt involved with one of his co-stars? The rumor mill decided he might be, and all eyes quickly turned to his Allied co-star Marion Cotillard. The scrutiny became so intense, in fact, that the Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram to respond. Framing her statement around an abstract image, Wednesday night she issued a firm denial in both French and English.

“This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into,” she said, crushing the hopes of all reporters who wanted a quote during the upcoming Allied press tour. “I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.”

Then, turning the subject to her partner, French actor and director Guillaume Canet, Cotillard also officially confirmed that she is pregnant with her second child. “Many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.” The couple met in the 90s and appeared together in the 2003 film Love Me if You Dare, while Canet was still married to actress Diane Kruger. Their first child, Marcel, was born in 2011.

Cotillard continued her post, taking the high road: “To those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery.”

The actress concluded by wishing her co-star and his soon-to-be ex the very best: “Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment. With all my love Marion.”

Social media has become quite popular for these kinds of high-profile denials; see also Ora, Rita or Swift, Taylor. But if you thought you’d never live to see the day that Marion Cotillard would address “haters” via Instagram, well, then you greatly underestimated how deeply the Brangelina divorce would affect us all.
