Tragedy has struck for reggaeton superstar Wisin’s family, as we learned via an Instagram post Friday morning (Sept. 30) that his one-month-old daughter, Victoria, has passed away.
Wisin, né Juan L. Morera, revealed earlier this month that his daughter was born with the genetic disorder Trisomy 13, which affects almost every organ in the body and is the cause of severe birth defects. Most infants diagnosed with the disorder don’t live past their first year of life.
“I thank God for her one month of life, one month with Victoria,” Wisin wrote in the heartbreaking post. “Princess Victoria, I will see you again in heaven. I’m in so much pain, God please help me. I want to thank millions of people who were praying for our family and for our Victoria.”
Back when Wisin first announced his daughter had the disorder, he was very optimistic that she’d be able to survive. According to Fox News Latino, he said, “Like any other parent, we ask that you all continue to pray for us so that we can overcome this process and that our daughter will be able to recover soon. God will fulfill his purpose in our Victoria.”
Wisin’s wife, Yomaira Ortiz, told Telemundo Puerto Rico’s Dando Candela that she was five months pregnant when they found out their baby was carrying the genetic disorder. Despite doctors urging her to terminate the pregnancy, she didn’t see that has an option. Instead, she relied on her faith in God. She also recommended to other parents in the same position to not turn to abortion as an option.
“Even if doctors recommend that you terminate your pregnancy, because the doctors will try to convince you, this isn’t the route that God wants,” she said. “We are no one to decide over the life of another human, even if it is our child. Always know that God has a perfect plan, even if at the moment we can’t seem to understand it.”
Wisin, of the former iconic duo Wisin y Yandel, has received much-needed support from then partner-in-crime, Yandel, who also shared his reaction this morning.
