Spice girls: Fashion is cyclical. Some trends seem to disappear, only to reappear before our eyes a short while later, resurrecting eras that seem distant, with designers somehow succeeding in dragging them into the here and now by reclaiming a selection of hit pieces and accessories. When we talk about the '90s, however, the fashion of that period was not simply about normcore or minimalism, because five women left a deep and lasting impression on the decade with their retro-futuristic style.

The Spice Girls, the undeniable fashion icons of the 1990s

The success of their single 'Wannabe' saw them shoot to the top of record sales worldwide (that was 26 years ago) and from then on, nothing was the same. The Spice Girls gradually refined their image, building real characters with their own unique styles and nicknames: Mel C (Sporty Spice) with her sporty outfits and a sneaker collection that made sneaker lovers green with envy; Mel B (Scary) with her bold combinations and flashy prints; Emma (Baby) who was ahead of the barbiecore trend with her pink, pigtails and dresses; Geri (Ginger) full of spirit and sensuality with her bright red outfits and Victoria (Posh), a follower of the black and minimalist look. Their looks quickly became as famous as their songs and dance moves. As a group, they gave us an experience that filled the Y2K era with unforgettable fashion moments.

The nostalgia of the '90s has been going strong for the last few years, taking on various forms. So we decided to chart the trend pioneered by the Spice Girls that can serve as inspiration today. These clothes and accessories can easily be found in stores or thrift shops. Incorporating mini-dresses, wedges, and flashy colors are just a few of the creative ways that you can copy the Spice Girls' photos while we eagerly await their rumored upcoming reunion!

Victoria Beckham's minimalist style, from little black dresses to bikinis

Of all the Spice Girls, Victoria was the one who best summed up the transition from 1990s minimalism to a form of retrofuturism. Her wardrobe was composed of corsets, short, body-con dresses, and bikinis paired with miniskirts. Posh Spice's fashion for fashion stayed with her, and she went on to become a successful designer.

Geri Halliwell's platform boots and sequins

The singer designed her own outfits, which she had her sister make. Ginger Spice recently celebrated her 50th birthday and to this day remains a fashion icon. Who could forget her sequined tank top with its Union Jack motif, her velvet mini-dresses, and her platform boots?

Emma Bunton's mastery of Barbiecore, before it was even a thing

Before the term Barbiecore even existed, Emma had invented it. The braids and pigtails offered a playful style, as did her abundance of pink dresses. The whole thing was made better by platform shoes and colorful beaded jewels.

Mel B, the Queen of animal print

Her style was a perfect fusion of bling and animal prints, that was ideal for women who dare to experiment with their fashion choices. You should definitely consider doing full leopard print, or even better yet, the sleeveless reflective puffer jacket with a neon crop top and matching mini shorts.

Mel C's athleisure-inspired wardrobe

In the group's music videos, Sporty Spice never missed an opportunity to flaunt her love of sports with punches and kicks always executed in a rhythm that matched the tempo. In keeping with her favorite hobbies, Mel C loved wearing a range of sports pants, cargo pants and tracksuits and always paired them with bras or tank tops inspired by the world of fitness and bearing the labels of her favorite brands, Nike and adidas. She absolutely foretold the triumph of athleisure, the dominant style of our time.
