From an idea by Sandy Denny's daughter Georgia, she set about finding the right person to bring to life her mothers lyrics. Nine tracks on the album have been created from lyrics found in the notebooks of Sandy Denny. Some of them are part, some full songs, but the commonality is that with the exception of two sets of lyrics, none of the lyrics had previously been put to music or used in any of Sandy’s published songs.

In the winter of 2020, when I was alone in my tiny car at night, driving through snowy roads in the highmountains playing Sandy Denny's album 'Sandy', I was suddenly overcome with inspiration. I was so
fascinated by her music and her voice that, as soon as I got home, I had to sit down at the piano and play her songs. Before I knew it I had started my project Songs of Sandy Denny.

Georgia and I first met online after I put my first Sandy covers on YouTube. Our connection from that first moment is another mystery that is hard to put into words. We had found each other. I took courage and
sent her my song ‘Songbird’ and my version of Sandy's lost lyrics to ‘Sixpence’. Shortly after, I almost fell off my chair when Georgia suggested we make a whole album with lyrics Sandy couldn't put to music.

From one part of the world to the other, from Australia to Germany. The depth of our friendship grew with a great gratitude that we had both found someone with whom we could share this Sandy journey in all its details. We lived together in our project. We made plans, supported each other in questions of music, songwriting, searching through the original lyrics together with Elizabeth Hurtt. And, while I was taking care of the music, Georgia was crafting her own artwork from Sandy's sketches, the wonderful artwork of our album.

And out of the energy, thoughts and love for each other came this album that unites three women -
regardless of space and time, making the impossible possible and picking up what seemed to be over
long before I was even born!
Nine tracks on the album have been created from lyrics found in the notebooks of Sandy Denny. Some

Sixpence and Georgia were earlier put to music and featured on albums by Thea Gilmore, but for this album Fuchs has composed new music.

Sandy’s daughter Georgia was looking
for a way to do something with her mother’s legacy. By chance she ‘met’ German singer, composer,
multi-instrumentalist Carla Fuchs who had already been writing her own songs inspired by Sandy Denny.
One of those songs ‘Songbird’ was written specifically about Sandy and Georgia and dedicated to both
of them. Georgia was impressed with Carla’s songwriting skill and suggested she be the one to bring the
lost lyrics to life composing the music for them.

Importantly Carla has not attempted to make another 'Sandy tribute' album nor is she trying to sound like Sandy. She has concentrated on evoking a Sandy inspired soundscape with a sensitivity that pays
homage to Sandy’s musical nuances. She has crafted nine new songs that can sit proudly alongside Denny's legacy of timeless songs. The resulting album is the culmination of Carla’s musical skills and
Georgia’s artistic skills, an album that honours Sandy Denny and builds upon the musical legacy that continues to inspire a new generation. The 'Songbird' is now ready to fly.

John Drumbo French from Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band worked with Thompson on two albums along with Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser. Those two French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson albums led me to this. Also, Richard Thompson taught Hugh Cornwell (of The Stranglers) how to play the bass guitar in a band when they were both at the same school (Emil and The Detectives?). With a career spanning 50 years and playing with two of my heroes (French and Cornwell) Thompson has produced a fascinating EP. yellowcakeuf6

There's a similarity in song writing between Richard Thompson and Hugh Cornwell which maybe isn't surprising as they went to the same school at the same time, although Thompson is older. Due to Thompson's association with John French of Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band I searched for his work on the Bandcamp app. French, Thompson and Cornwell all have albums on the app which I'm very pleased about.
